There was plenty to cheer about on Wednesday night, with four new field records set and plenty of personal bests achieved across the club!
Nicholas Masini continued his incredible record run, this time setting a new mark in the 20–29 years discus with a powerful throw of 33.42m. His throw toppled a long-standing record of 32.64m, set by Dave Lovett back in the 1984–85 season.
In the 50–59 years discus, Tim Musson bettered his own record from last week, improving on his 38.27m throw to achieve a new best of 39.60m. Anne Boatswain made it three discus records for the night, with a throw of 24.27m, surpassing Mel Jennings’ previous record of 22.48m set in 2019–20.

In the 16–17 years javelin, Kadance Naylor impressed with a fantastic throw of 35.25m, surpassing the previous record of 33.58m held by Emily Warden since 2012–13.
Over in the shot put circle, the juniors shone under the expert guidance of Jacqui Peace. Five-year-old Xander Day recorded a great throw of 3.85m, while four-year-old Grace Parmenter reached 2.53m. In D Grade, Benjamin Emmerton led the way with a throw of 5.14m, followed by Cobey Lee with 4.69m and Hallie Brown with 4.30m. In C Grade, Riley Sandstrom celebrated a new personal best of 9.26m and Thor Jackson impressed with 7.16m.

The long jump pit was buzzing with energy as juniors showed their determination and improving skills. Great jumping was seen by Keifer Spearpoint (3.42m), Piper Browne (3.20m), Olivia Brennan (2.99m) and Ben Sproule (2.75m).
It wasn’t just the field events that impressed — the track was busy across all distances.
There were six heats of the 400m, drawing strong participation across age groups. Isla Bailie took out heat 1 in 1.04.91 followed by Evie Smart in 1.07.88 and Emerson Boatswain in 1.14.82. Heat 2 was won by Erin Smart in 1.01.76 just ahead of Leith Babian in 1.02.09 and Lily Sproule in 1.04.50. In the junior races, Amarlie Ward, Thor Jackson and Josie Sproule all showed excellent form, while our Masters runners; Joel Browne, Andrew Heffill, John Smith and Mitch Emmerton also put in strong performances over the one-lap distance.

The 100m sprints were as popular as ever, with ten heats keeping the crowd entertained. Among the fastest of the night were Flynn Kelly (12.40), Erin Smart (13.32) and Isla Bailie (13.38). The younger athletes ran with plenty of enthusiasm and finished with big smiles – great runs were seen from Rosie Saviane, Kayleigh Kingdom, Coco Prayetno, Max Saviane and Perseus Spearpoint.
In the 3000m, a strong field of 22 athletes took to the track. The race was won by the hard-working Leith Babian in 10:45.32, followed by William Heffill with 12:12.08) and Amarlie Ward with 12:52.82. It was fantastic to see so many juniors taking on the long-distance challenge demonstrating determination and resilience. Five-year-olds Hamish Bennett (19:33.92) and Xander Day (19:49.46) both finished impressively to round out the field.

It was another outstanding evening of competition, teamwork and community spirit at the track. Congratulations to all athletes on their efforts and achievements. We look forward to seeing everyone back next Wednesday for more great performances!
