Another afternoon of Winter sunshine greeted runners for the final round of cross country on Saturday 8th August. Luca Sturgiss reigned supreme in the 1km, taking the win again this week with a time of 6:14. Ayla Parmenter was second in 7:13 and Olive Sturgiss was third in 8:33. Sophie Giumelli (11:01) crossed the line just in front of Patrick Giumelli (11:02).
There were 14 competitors in the 2km event and it was Walter Cisneros who took the win in 8:57. Xander Day was second in 9:23 and Lani Parmenter was third in 10:04. Chelsea Corbridge had a solid run of 9:03 followed by Anne Boatswain (13:40) and Ari Cisneros (9:17). Zayne Taylor recorded the fastest time of 7:55 in seventh place. Coming in next were Hamish Bennett (10:29), Hollie Giumelli (11:34) and Henry Giumelli (9:11). Will Sproule ran well to finish in 9:21 followed by Perry Strand (9:22), Peter Dooley (10:01) and Lily Sproule (9:22).
In the 3km event, Declan Bennett had a good win in 13:00 followed closely by Emerson Boatswain in 13:28. Lhiam Crook was third in 16:04, followed by Jack Kinsele in 14:44 then Geoff Crook in 17:27. Mitch Emmerton came in sixth in 17:40 beating home Alex Emmerton who clocked 18:53. Malachy Martin was eighth in 22:56 with Ben Emmerton rounding out the field in 20:15.
There was a large field of 18 runners in the 5km event with the win going to Steve McCullagh in 22:54. Matt Reid and Leith Babian battled it out on the course with Matt crossing in 18:38 and Leith in 18:40. Dean Bryce was fourth in 23:30 but was edged out in time by Matt Kinsele with 23:07. Hamish McLaren clocked the fastest time of 18:30 in sixth place. Next home was Uddhav Parasher in 28:56 followed by Erin Martin (28:04), Katie Martin (32:40), then Natasha Toms (33:41). Tristan Corbridge had a great run of 23:34 as did Glenn Sansom with 25:43. Eva Moeller-Duhme came in thirteenth in 43:43. Ron Cozijnsen ran well to clock 24:22 and Scott Armstrong had a strong run of 20:04. Emily McLaren had a good run, ahead of the upcoming National Championships, with 24:05. Lisa Carroll finished well with 29:21 and Sky Martin finished the field in 33:40.
Long course was convincingly won by Scott Martin in 41:46 followed by Rebecca Cooper in 52:48.
Next Saturday, 15th August we finish the season with novelty events and our cross country presentation. Please join us from 2pm at the UOW course. There will be a sausage sizzle and opportunity to celebrate the wonderful season we’ve had.
