The 2026 NSW Cross Country Relay Championships were held on Saturday 18th July at Newington Armory.
This year, Nowra Athletics Club fielded three teams, and despite the small contingent, produced some outstanding results.
In the 11–12 years 4 x 1.5km female relay, Nowra delivered an excellent performance to finish 10th in a strong field of 17 teams. Ivy Donougher got the team off to a great start, completing the opening leg in 6:06. Piper Browne then produced a fantastic second leg of 6:03 before Chelsea Corbridge covered the third leg in 6:22. Mila Bozikov brought the team home with a solid final leg of 6:23, giving the quartet a combined time of 24:56.
In the boys 14–15 years 4 x 2km relay, Nowra put together a fantastic team performance to claim the bronze medal in a time of 27:46. Macca Davis got the team off to a flying start with a superb opening leg of 6:34. New member Asher Everitt, who was recruited into the relay team at short notice, backed it up with another excellent run of 6:35. Kai Thirwall completed the third leg in 7:11 before William Heffill brought the team home with a strong final leg of 7:24. Congratulations to the boys on a well-deserved medal-winning performance!
The men’s 50–59 years team of Scott Armstrong, Gavin Dyball, Andrew Heffill and Geoff Crook finished just one place off the podium, taking 4th place in a combined time of 1:14:12. Scott recorded the fastest leg for Nowra, completing the opening 4km in 15:45. Gavin followed with a strong second leg of 16:40 before Andrew completed the third leg in 19:39. Long-time club member Geoff Crook anchored the team home in 22:08.
