As cross country nears the end of the season, enthusiasm remains high. On Saturday 1st August members gathered at our home course of UOW Shoalhaven. In the 1km event, Luca Sturgiss once again took the win in 8:38 followed by Sophie Giumelli in 9:59 and then Patrick Giumelli in 11:04.
Sally Browne claimed victory in the 2km event in 7:59 followed by Amelie Cisneros in 13:07 then Will Sproule in 8:58. Henry Giumelli ran a good time of 8:55 in fourth place followed by Joel Browne with a solid time of 8:19. Peter Dooley was sixth (9:34) followed by Hollie Giumelli (11:26) then Piper Browne (8:39). Josie Sproule, David Sproule and Perry Strand all finished together in 8:59. Zayne Taylor may have crossed the line in twelfth position, but his time of 7:50 was the fastest over this distance. Rounding out the field was Hamish Bennett in 11:04.
In the 3km, Declan Bennett was the speediest and took the points win in 12:49 followed by Mitch Emmerton in 17:08 then Tristan Corbridge in 14:09. Alex Emmerton was fourth in 16:38 with Malachy Martin fifth (20:50), Jack Kinsele sixth (15:34) and Alex Arnold seventh (20:53). Walter Cisneros (18:51) came in next followed by Ben Emmerton (19:45) and Ari Cisneros (18:50).
Medium course was won by Rebecca Kundrat in 25:48 with Natasha Toms coming in second in 34:52 and Steve McCullagh third in 23:51. Dean Bryce was next in 24:07 followed by Matt Reid with the fastest time of 19:29. Glenn Sansom was sixth (26:10), and Lisa Carroll seventh (28:44) followed by Scott Armstrong who recorded the second fastest time of 20:10. Sky Martin completed the field in 34:52.
Long course had just three competitors again. Peter Khourey took the win in 50:33 followed closely by Rebecca Cooper in 50:58. Scott Johnson was not far behind in 52:45.
