On Wednesday 28th January 2025, Braxton Naylor threw 21.36m to establish an inaugural 10 years age record in the javelin. Well done, Braxton!
Kadance Naylor recorded a standout throw of 34.86m, the longest throw of the night. Mum, Lauren Naylor, wasn’t far behind with the next best throw of 25.70m, proving that throwing talent clearly runs in the family. Emerson Boatswain also recorded a solid throw of 20.04m, just edged out by her mum, Anne Boatswain, who threw 20.81m.
It was great to see Charli Keogh back at track and field, recording a good throw of 15.97m in the discus. William Heffill (14.24m), Evie Binney (12.32m) and Josie Sproule (12.15m) also put in strong efforts in the discus circle.
In the shot put, the junior athletes produced some great performances. Merelei Falemoe threw 8.02m, Braxton Naylor 8.23m and Ben Sproule 7.60m. In the 9 years and under group, Benjamin Emmerton achieved 5.49m, Willy Sproule 4.95m, Hazel Saviane 4.15m and Jaxon Keogh 4.00m.
At the long jump pit, 9-year-old Ieremaia Falemoe leapt an impressive 3.70m. Braxton Naylor jumped 3.07m, while Merelei Falemoe (2.93m), Benjamin Sproule (2.85m), Isla Saviane (2.69m) and Jaxon Keogh (2.59m) also recorded good jumps.
On the track, Declan Bennett won the first heat of the 400m in 1:16.88, followed by Ben Sproule (1:20.62) and Jaxon Keogh (1:29.96). Evie Binney took out the second heat in 1:09.48, with Emerson Boatswain second in 1:12.92 and Josie Sproule third in 1:21.48. In the third heat, Leith Babian claimed victory in 1:06.72, ahead of Macca Davis (1:17.00) and Will Heffill (1:19.78).
The 2km event saw three starters, with two finishers. Macca Davis took the win in 11:56.56, followed by Declan Bennett in 12:38.23. In the junior 1000m, Benjamin Emmerton had a fantastic run to finish in 4:57.90. Xander Day was 2nd in 5:06.92, Hamish Bennett 3rd in 5:32.61, and Hazel Saviane, showing growing confidence over the distance, finished 4th in 6:05.11.
In the 100m sprint, Erin Smart recorded the fastest time of the night with a strong 13.83. Also clocking quick times were Evie Binney (14.74), Leith Babian (14.93), Ieremaia Falemoe (15.26) and Kadance Naylor (15.31). Newcomer Victoria Hampshire had a solid run, finishing in 15.19. Andrew Heffill may have been beaten by son Will in the 400m, but reclaimed bragging rights in the 100m, finishing 4th in 15.86 and beating Will home in 5th (16.82).
