Nowra Athletics Club had a selection of members participate in the Ultra Trail Jervis Bay on Saturday 28th June. Runners encountered a wide range of environments, from beach running, cliff tops, and single track to rolling fire trail. The course challenged runners with plenty of soft sand and some rough technical trails.
In the 20km coastal burn Scott Johnson placed 25th from 203 entries. He completed the course in 1.51.24 and was 7th in the 41–59-years group. Dean Bryce was 48th overall and was 19th in the 41-59 years group with 2.04.10 whilst Glen Mustapic was 56th overall and 21st in the same age group with a time of 2.11.34. Brad Stevens was 61st in 2.16.24, Harry Davis was 71st in 2.21.15 and Club president Matt Watson was 107th in 2.41.03. John Bond, husband of member Angela Bond was 111th in 2.42.27.
In the 20km short course, Mark O’Leary was the 102nd runner home in 2.51.12.
Teenager Madeline Oke had a great 20km run in the coastal burn, finishing on the podium as the 3rd female from 116 female runners, and 15th overall with an impressive time of 1.47.53. Airlie Stevens also had a good run, finishing 1st in the age group 15-20 years whilst being the 8th female and 34th overall with a time of 1.57.38.
Jackie Ansah was 120th overall and 28th in the 41-59 years group with 2.46.07. Mel Mustapic was 146th and 40th female in her age group in 2.59.53 whilst Emma Stevens was 191st in 3.40.00 and Leanne O’Leary was 197th in 3.53.02.
Cathleen Chang was the best finisher in the master’s women’s group for Nowra in the 20km short course, crossing the line in 26th place from 104 entrants. Cathleen was the 14th female athlete from a pool of 61 with a time of 2.06.16. Kylie Oke crossed in 81st place and was the 44th female athlete in 2.25.41. Not too far behind her was Olivia Oke in 99th place in 2.35.38.
