Earlier this year, 20-year-old Will Dyball competed in the Open 800m at the Australian Track and Field Championships, finishing 31st amongst an elite field – a great achievement.
Following this, Will took the opportunity to nominate for selection in the Australian team to compete at the Oceania Cup, which will be held in Tonga next week.
His nomination was successful and he has been selected as Australia’s Under 23 representative for the 800m.
The Oceania Cup serves as a development tour for Australia’s Under 23 athletes who have not yet represented the nation at World, Commonwealth, or Olympic levels. It is a teams-based competition, with athletes representing the regions of the Area, Micronesia, Melanesia, and Polynesia, as well as Australia, New Zealand and Tonga.
Set to take place from October 29 to November 1 in Nuku’alofa – which fittingly means “residence of love” – Will will swap the black and gold for green and gold as he steps onto the international stage for the first time.
This is a wonderful opportunity for Will to gain valuable international experience on the track, and we wish him all the very best in Tonga.
