There was a trifecta of records set on Wednesday, December 3rd.
On the track, despite not feeling 100%, Erin Smart bettered her own club bests in both the 400m and 100m. Erin clocked 1:00.66 in the 400m, lowering her previous mark of 1:00.86, and followed it up with 13.10 in the 100m, improving on her former best of 13.20.
In the field, Sam Keogh delivered a strong performance in the hammer, throwing 21.78m and surpassing the 21.52m record set by Anne Boatswain last season.
Congratulations to both these athletes on their new records!
In a new initiative for junior long-distance athletes, a 1000m event was offered to C, D, and E Grade runners. Benjamin Emmerton had a fantastic run, taking the win in 4:35.75. Xander Day followed in 4:56.68. Next home was Leo Krizanovic with a strong run of 5.00.74 followed by Lottie Morrison (5.22.47), Lani Parmenter (5.24.56), Hazel Saviane (5.37.53), Matilda Norman (5.47.21); showing great improvement over the longer distance, and rounded out by Grace Parmenter (7.25.43).
The senior 3000m had four competitors this week, with Isabelle Fielding taking the win in 14:09.40, finishing strongly to just edge out John Smith (14:12.78). In another tight finish, Jack Saviane (16:37.86) in 3rd, held off his sister Isla (16:37.89) by mere hundredths.
There were also some strong performances in the 400m, with notable runs from Leith Babian (1:03.26), Evie Binney (1:06.53), Lily Sproule (1:08.26) and Simon Donougher (1:08.28). Also putting in good efforts were Emerson Boatswain (1:13.37), Josie Sproule (1:17.11), William Heffill (1:17.73), Alex Morrison (1:19.32) and Benjamin Sproule (1:19.39).
In the 100m, Hamish McLaren was the quickest with 12.62. Young Ieremaia Falemoe was impressive with 15.03 as was Kiefer Spearpoint with 15.72. It was great to see so much enthusiasm from our D and E graders including Perseus Spearpoint, Harry Morrison, Rosie Saviane and Max Saviane.
Tim Musson led the way in the hammer throw with a strong effort of 30.87m. Mel Jennings followed closely with 26.72m, then Anne Boatswain (24.41m), Lauren Naylor (19.97m) – just edging out daughter Kadance (19.85m) – and Emeson Boatswain (13.67m).
In the javelin, Tim Musson again recorded the longest distance, throwing 37.63m. Hamish McLaren was next best with 31.60m, followed by Kadance Naylor (28.33m), Anne Boatswain (25.36m), Geoff Crook (24.79m) and Ellie Cooper (24.41m).
In the long jump, Simon Donougher soared to 4.40m, with Evie Binney also performing well with a 4.00m jump. The Under 6 athletes put in some excellent efforts including Xander Day (2.26m), Grace Parmenter (1.50m), Rosie Saviane (1.10m) and Max Saviane (0.70m).
Among the D graders, Ieremaia Falemoe produced a fantastic jump of 3.70m. Also jumping strongly were Jaxon Keogh (2.78m), Benjamin Emmerton (2.42m), Lani Parmenter (2.40m) and Willy Sproule (2.09m). Reaching the two-metre mark were Hazel Saviane and Matilda Norman, both at 2.00m, with Leo Krizanovic just shy at 1.98m.
