Our Track & Field season kicked off on Wednesday 17th September 2025, and it was fantastic to see so many athletes – both new and familiar. The focus for the night was all about fun, with no timing or measuring and no points on offer, just plenty of encouragement for everyone to have a go and enjoy both track and field events.
In the 600m there were 27 competitors in heat 1. Ben Sproule took the win followed by Maddy Sandstrom and Piper Browne. Hewie Sproule was 4th then Jaxon Keogh 5th and newcomer Eden Quodling 6th. The rest of the field was a mixture of new and regular junior athletes. Heat 2 was won by Josie Sproule whilst Will Heffill was 2nd and Isabelle Fielding 3rd. Next home were masters runners Simon Donougher, John Smith, Andrew Heffill and Sam Keogh. Mitch Emmerton debuted in 8th place followed by Nathan Rose, Will Sproule (who missed the junior race), Grace Rose and Rod Rose.
Next up on the track was the 100m. Xander Day won heat 1 followed by Talekai Puckeridge and Matilda Norman. Ivy Ward was the winner of heat 2 with Will Sproule and Isabelle Sandstrom not far behind. Braxton Naylor had a great run in heat 3 followed by newcomer Benjamin Emmerton then Jameson Day. Heat 4 had just 4 competitors – Piper Browne took the win followed by Chelsea Corbridge, Eden Quodling and Isla Saviane.
Josie Sproule took line honours once again in her 100m sprint with Isabelle Fielding 2nd and Charli Keogh 3rd. Heat 6 also had just 4 contenders with Ben Sproule crossing first followed by Will Heffill, Jack Saviane and Dean Osgood. The final 100m event featured Nowra’s sprint queen Erin Smart who streaked past the finishing line ahead of Simon Donougher, John Smith, Andrew Heffill, Miriam Spry, Nathan Rose, Mitch Emmerton and Sam Keogh.
The final event on the track was the 1500m. Will Heffill had a solid run for 1st place whilst Heidi Saviane also showed good form, coming in 2nd. Piper Browne was 3rd, John Smith 4th and Andrew Heffill 5th. Isla Saviane was next home followed by Mitch Emmerton, Eden Quodling, Benjamin Emmerton, Hazel Saviane and Jameson Day.
Seven-year-old Lani Parmenter ran brilliantly for 12th place, her Winter cross-country experience really paying off. Matilda Norman, Isabelle Fielding, Xander Day and Nathan Rose all added to the excitement, rounding out a fantastic field. Four-year-old Grace Parmenter stole hearts with her determination to cross the line in 17th and Miriam Spry showed great resilience to fight back after missing the start and still finish with a smile in 18th.
In the field there was plenty of enthusiasm at the high jump, discus and javelin.
Next week is our second and final ‘try for free’ night. Come along and join in the fun!
