There were three new records for our field athletes in week 2 of our 2025-26 season on October 8th.
Eleven year-old Riley Sandstrom threw the 750g discus an impressive 34.32m, surpassing the previous record of 31.72m set by Taj Barrett in the 2018-19 season.
New member Nicholas Masini continued his strong start, improving on last week’s throw of 12.00m with a new mark of 12.16m, securing his second 20–29 years record in as many weeks in the shot put circle.
Tim Musson also continued his record-breaking, setting a new 50–59 years discus record with a throw of 38.27m.
In the long jump pit, our junior athletes produced some solid performances. Riley Sandstrom jumped 4.25m, followed by Braxton Naylor (3.29m), Amarlie Ward (3.24m), and Jack Saviane (3.07m). The Under 6 athletes all recorded marks on the board, including Xander Day (2.11m), Kayleigh Kingdom (1.09m), Grace Parmenter (1.06m), Rosie Saviane (0.93m), and Coco Prayetno (0.70m).
On the track, competition was fierce across all age groups. Declan Bennett took out his junior 800m heat in 2:53.72, while Flynn Kelly won his event in 2:43.70, and Amarlie Ward crossed the line in 2:43.36 for her win. In the senior race, Toby Dyball held off Leith Babian to claim victory in 2:18.02, with Leith finishing in 2:20.26 and Joel Brown taking third in 2:53.79.
In the 2km race, Leith Babian took line honours in 6:57.98, followed by Scott Armstrong in 7:19.29 and Noah Dyball in 7:49.27.
There was plenty of speed on display in the 200m events, with some fantastic racing across the board. Jonah Watson was the fastest on the night, clocking 24.53, edging out visiting runner Stephen Hindmarsh (24.88). Flynn Kelly followed with 25.51, then Erin Smart (27.62) and Alisha Mustapic (28.89). Nine-year-old Madison Sandstrom also had a strong sprint, crossing the line in 34.79.
Congratulations to all athletes on an outstanding night of competition. It was fantastic to see such strong performances, great sportsmanship and another three new records set so early in the season. We look forward to seeing everyone back on the track next week for more great results!
