It was a trifecta of records on Wednesday 19th November!
Hammer throw returned to the program with a bang, led by a sensational performance from Kadance Naylor, who launched the hammer 21.39m, smashing Talea Miller’s 2021–22 record of 17.70m. There were strong throws across the board, with Mel Jennings posting 27.48m, Lauren Naylor 20.86m, Anne Boatswain 20.78m and Kerrie Jones 19.14m.
Record number two came courtesy of Lauren Naylor, who set a new benchmark in the 40–49 years javelin with a throw of 27.30m, bettering her own record of 27.15m from earlier this season.
The third record of the evening belonged to Kerrie Jones, who raised the bar in the shot put with 6.48m, edging past her previous best of 6.40m.
In the discus, Braxton Naylor delivered an impressive 26.39m, while young members Isla Saviane and Merelei Falemoe worked hard and showed great promise as they continue to refine their technique.
On the track the 600m was well contested. Hamish McLaren took a commanding win in 1:37.54, followed by Lily Sproule (1:52.00) and Alex Morrison (1:52.56).
In the junior heat, Amarlie Ward claimed victory in 1:57.38, ahead of Piper Browne (2:19.46) and Madison Sandstrom (2:20.27).
Over 60m, there was both speed and plenty of laughs! Hamish McLaren, running in work boots, clocked an impressive 8.38, just pipping our masters sprint queen Erin Smart (8.39). Sam Keogh continued her strong form after the State Relays with 8.96. Solid runs also came from Kadance Naylor (9.06), Lily Sproule (9.07) and Evie Binney (9.15).
Other notable performances included Ieremaia Falemoe (9.25), Alex Morrison (9.48), Ben Sproule (9.56), Evie Smart (9.58) and Amarlie Ward (9.71).
Andrew Heffill powered to line honours in 9.84, while 10-year-old Kiefer Spearpoint impressed with 9.93.
In a fun-filled family showdown, Emerson Boatswain (9.95) edged out Aurora Boatswain (9.99) and Anne Boatswain (13.43), sparking plenty of laughter.
The junior 1500m was won by Piper Browne, who ran a smooth, composed race in 6:44.40. She was followed by Isla Saviane in 7:18.85, with Benjamin Emmerton 3rd in 7:52.95. Xander Day and Hamish Bennett thrilled spectators with a sprint to the finish, Xander just nudging ahead for 4th. Hazel Saviane, Lani Parmenter and Lottie Morrison also ran strongly.
In the senior race, Alex Morrison claimed the win in 5:29.56, ahead of Declan Bennett (5:46.07) and Amarlie Ward (6:02.33).
