It’s now something of a tradition for me to whip up a Christmas parody each year. This time I’m getting in early to celebrate our much-loved Christmas Mile. We look forward to seeing everyone in their festive colours on Wednesday 17th December.
The Christmas Mile is Coming to Town
You’d better warm up, you’d better run fast,
Better bring water, or you won’t last.
The Christmas Mile is coming to town!
Pete’s making a list, and checking it twice;
He’s working out the handicaps and taking advice.
The Christmas Mile is coming to town!
He watches when you run, he sees every stride,
He knows if you are ready or just along for the ride.
So you’d better dash out, you’d better aim fine,
Better hit the track in record-breaking time.
The Christmas Mile is coming to town!
You better stay strong, you better not stall,
Better leave some energy for the final call.
The Christmas Mile is coming to town!
There’s a pudding to win, with the bragging rights too,
If you clutch it proudly, the cheers follow you.
The Christmas Mile’s the sweetest race in town!
You’ll cheer and you’ll laugh as you chase down the clock,
Your friends on the sidelines, the post-race talk,
’Cause the Christmas Mile is coming to town.
Oh, it’s the race of the year, the one we all praise,
Been run on this track for decades of days.
The Christmas Mile is famous in our town!
Sooo…
You better warm up,
You better run proud,
Bring all your cheer
And make this crowd loud.
’Cause the Christmas Mile is coming…
The Christmas Mile is coming…
The Christmas Mile is coming to town!
