Nowra Athletics Club is affiliated with Athletics NSW allowing eligible members to represent the club in ANSW and AA organised cross country championship events and also in selected teams at state, national and international level.
Eligibility for ANSW events does not apply to tiny tots or community memberships, however community members can upgrade their membership during the season if they wish to participate in ANSW events. Members just pay the difference between the two membership prices.
ANSW Cross Country Events
The ANSW Winter cross country season offers a variety of opportunities for members to participate provided they hold a NSW Athletics membership and are age eligible.
The Cross Country Championships offer cross country competition for a diverse range of athletes aged 7-80+, of all abilities and standards. This event serves as the principal selection event for the Australian Cross Country Championships and is commonly held at the Willandra course, right here in the Shoalhaven.

NSW Short Course XC Championships are the 2nd of the individual Cross Country Championships. The Championships are open to athletes registered with an eligible NSW Athletics membership. They cater for athletes aged 7-80+, of all abilities and standards. Junior distances range from 800m – 3km and adult distances from 4km to 7.5km. These championships are typically held at Kembla Joggers home course in West Dapto.

Winter Relays are the highlight of the season, bringing a team-based component to an inherently individual sport. The relays are a fun event where clubs can form relay teams of four (4) athletes to compete together for medals.
The winter relay program typically offers:
- NSW Dual Relays (St. George Classic)
- NSW XC Relays
- NSW Road Relays
The club is always keen to enter teams to compete at the relays and has a tradition of covering all entry fees for these events. Expressions of interest to compete in these team events is invited through the club’s communication channels.
If you put your hand up to be a part of a relay team, we simply ask that you do your best to follow through with your commitment. Relays are all about teamwork – every person plays an important role. If something unexpected comes up and you’re unable to compete, please let us know as early as possible. That way we have the best chance of finding a replacement and keeping the team on the track.
Nowra Athletics Club Selection Guidelines for ANSW Relays
Athletes must confirm their availability with team managers. Teams will be formed from available athletes within each age-group. If an age-group has more than 4 available runners, all athletes will be ranked in order to determine the top 4 runners to make up the first male and female A-Team. If an age-group has additional runners, a B team can be formed. If there are spare runners for whom a team cannot be formed, then these athletes may make up teams in another age-group for which they are also eligible. Once teams are selected the club will communicate this to the selected athletes.
Nowra Athletics Club teams will be formed before any regional teams with other south coast clubs.

Club uniform
The Club uniform must be worn at all Athletics NSW, State, Championship and Team events. Plain black shorts/tights of any brand are considered acceptable, worn with the Club uniform singlet or crop top. It is the policy of ANSW that athletes observed to not be wearing their correct club uniform will be unable to start unless they have dispensation from the General Manager- Sport Delivery (or his/her delegate). If the offence is noted after the race start, they will be warned in the first instance. If the offence happens for a second time, they will be disqualified (including retrospectively).
