The 2026 Australian Masters Athletics Championships were held in Canberra from March 6-9th. Nowra Athletics Club was represented impressively by seven athletes.
Leading the charge was Erin Smart winning back to back titles in the 40-44 years 100 and 200. In the 100m heat Erin qualified with 13.16 and went on to win the final in a fast 12.83. In the 200m, Erin won gold in 25.69 whilst in the 400m, she was just edged out for the gold by Alison von Moger from Victoria. Erin won silver in a season best of 58.44 just behind von Moger who clocked 58.27.

Multiclub member Jo Lodge also contested the 40-44 years 100m running in 3rd behind Erin in the heat in 13.66 and finishing 6th in the final in 13.72. In the 200m, Jo placed 5th in 27.87 and in the 400m, Jo was 7th in 1.02.81.
Loretta Norris was 6th in the 40-44 years 400m in 1.02.66 and placed 5th in her 800m heat with 2.29.35.

Matt Reid made his National debut and won bronze in the 35-39 years 800m in 2.12.68. Unfortunately Matt succumbed to illness and had to withdraw from the 1500m.

Matt Watson was another debutante who had a great first nationals campaign, running in 9th in the 50-54 years 800m in 3.26.98 and 11th in the 400m in 1.27.92.

Lauren Naylor overcame her nerves to contest the 40-44 years javelin throwing not one, not two, but three personal best throws to win the silver medal with her throw of 29.53m.

Overall, it was a fantastic showing from Nowra Athletics Club, with athletes delivering strong performances across both track and field, achieving personal bests, podium finishes and valuable national experience. The club is incredibly proud of the effort, determination and sportsmanship displayed by all competitors.
