As we get closer to Christmas our lives inevitably get busier so numbers tend to drop off a little for sporting commitments.
However, whilst numbers may have been a little lower at Track and Field last Wednesday 13th December, spirits were high and results were strong.
In the junior men’s division Lachlan Woods, Dylan Johnstone, Harry Thomson, Brody Woods and Liam Johnstone all enjoyed the sprints with both 100m and 150m on offer. In the female group Akala Miller, Talea Miller, Zoe Musson, Elysha Davis and Claire Musson ran well in the 100m with little Winter Bell running with her trademark smile for E grade.
It was a close affair for the senior males in the 100m with Sam Taylor taking the win in 11.81 seconds in front of Lachlan Kaszonyi in 12.02 seconds and Emerson Brian, in his first sprint race since suffering an injury, running in third in 13.15 seconds.
In the senior women, Sarah deVries was the sole competitor in the 100m running in just behind the men in 13.52 seconds.
In the junior 1km event Jasper Arnold was the fastest in 3.43.54 minutes with Dylan Johnstone and Lachlan Woods also running well. Young Miller Bell ran with persistence and commitment to finish fifth.
Brad Sawyers took out the win in the senior 1km followed by Marty Bell and Peter Dooley.
Most of the runners backed up the 1km with a 3km run as well. Brad Sawyers crossed first in 10.51.38 with Peter Dooley running 12.12.58 minutes and Elisha Bell crossing in 12.44.92 minutes.
Also on the track program, last Wednesday was the senior 400m sprint with just five contenders. Brad Sawyers ran strongly again as did Marty and Elisha Bell, Peter Dooley and Sarah deVries.
In the field, Jackson Musson practised his discus with the senior throwers. Cooper Thomson had the biggest throw of the night with 40.17 metres recorded. Tim Musson threw 37.27 metres and Sam Taylor 34.82 metres.
In the javelin, Tim Musson came out in front with his throw of 44.87 metres whilst Sam Taylor was a smidgen behind on 44.24 metres. Junior Hannah Brian did exceptionally well pulling a throw of 17.37 metres out of the bag which was great to see for a ‘non-thrower’.
‘Coach extraordinaire’ Mel Mustapic stepped into the discus circle throwing 15.00 metres but was exceeded by daughter Jade who threw 17.15 metres.
Wednesday 20th December will be the final Track and Field competition night for the year. Come along for some Christmas fun and a free sausage sizzle.
Nowra Athletics will take a little Christmas break and then resume Track and Field on Wednesday 10th January.
Once again, don’t forget the NSW Country Championships will be held in Wollongong over the Australia Day weekend so make sure you put this date in your diary and enter online. We’d love to see as many Nowra athletes there as possible. It’s a great opportunity to compete against like-minded country athletes in a fun atmosphere. We are also on the search for junior and senior athletes for the Relays so don’t be shy, put your hand up and give it a go!
