Treloar Shield Round 3 was held at SOPAC on Saturday 22nd October. Nowra Athletics Club was well represented at this meet by 15 athletes from juniors to masters.
In the sprints 15-year-old Alisha Mustapic competed in the U18 100m, running in 2nd in her heat with a PB of 13.58. Alisha then backed up in the 200m, taking the win in her heat in 27.82, another PB.
In the male U18 sprints, Tom Brookes ran a huge 100m PB, crossing 5th in his heat in 12.68, and was 2nd in his 200m heat with a time of 25.78. Meanwhile Jonah Watson was 7th in his heat of the U18 100m crossing in a PB of 12.34 and was the winner of his 200m heat in 24.99
Asher Chapman returned to the track after recovering from a broken arm and ran a solid 100m in 12.81, which was just 0.05 seconds off his PB, and placed 5th in his heat. In the 200m Asher took another 5th place and recorded 26.53 which was just over a 1 second PB.
Masters’ sprinter Matt Reid contested the Opens events showing impressive form. Matt dropped his 100m PB from 12.20 to 12.04 and his 200m PB from 24.95 to 24.20.
In the Middle-Distance events, Amelia May stepped up to compete in the Open’s 800m and placed 2nd in a 5 second PB of 2.14.93 which is well below the National Qualifying time.
In the U14 race, Elizabeth Davis ran in 3rd in her heat achieving a huge 13 second PB of 2:48.02.
In the U18’s event, Nowra had 3 athletes. Toby Dyball won his heat in 2:06.54, which was a 4 second PB, and Darcy Davis placed 10th in the same heat in 2:16.34. William Dyball was 5th in his heat in 2:04.30.
Matt Watson ran a huge 4 second PB in his 800m, finishing 10th in the 35-49 years event in 3.05.13 while Gavin Dyball won the 50+ race by over 13 seconds, finishing in 2:31.11.
Hamish McLaren competed in the men’s U18 2000m 84cm steeplechase, running in 3rd in 7.04.09 whilst sister Emily McLaren competed in the female U18 event, finishing 8th in 8:05.09. Fourteen year old Nic McGill continued his strong running streak when he took out the men’s U18 2000m 76.2 steeplechase in a time of 6:46.10.
To top a great day of racing off, Nowra also got into the spirit of things and entered the relays. In the Men’s 2x100m U18 Relay Nowra’s team of Tom Brookes and Asher Chapman ran in 5th in 25.78. In the Men’s 4x400m U18 Relay Nowra’s combination of Will Dyball, Tom Brookes, Darcy Davis and Toby Dyball took the win in 3:56.32.
This is great preparation for the upcoming 2022 NSW State Relays, which will be held on the weekend of 19th and 20th November at Campbelltown Athletics Track. Events at NSW State Relays will be conducted in the Under 14, Under 16, Under 18, Under 20, Open and Masters 120+, 160+, 200+ and 240+ age categories. Athletes competing must be registered with an Athletics NSW club for the 2022-23 season and athletes must be aged 12 years or older at 31 December 2022 except for Masters athletes who must be over 30 years of age at 31 December 2022.
