Due to track work at Ron Brown Sporting Ground a field-events only program was conducted for Nowra Athletics last week. A small but dedicated group of athletes enjoyed a variety of throwing and jumping events.
Two new Discus records were established during the competition, which in itself probably is a first for the club. The reason being they were set by father & son, on the same night & in the same event. Father responsible was Tim Musson who added just over a metre to the 30 – 39yrs category, which he set two weeks ago and 9 year old son Jackson, created a new 9yrs & under record with a distance of 24 metres.
Another young Discus thrower who is consistently improving is Siwa Harvey-Aziz. In Round 8 Siwa set a new record in the 12/13 years category with a mighty throw of 48.06 metres. This bettered his record by 6 meters which he set earlier on 22 October. Well done Siwa, Tim and Jackson !
This Wednesday night should see a return to the full program which will be Series 3 – Round 9. with the track back in action. Events will kick off as normal from 6pm.
Nowra athletes are also reminded that the 2015 NSW Country Championships will be held at the Hunter Sports Centre Glendale Friday 23 to Sunday 25 January 2015. Start training now and thinking about the events you will enter. For more information check out NSW Athletics website.
