On Wednesday 22 October at Nowra Athletics two new records were set. Siwa Harvey-Aziz set a new record in the 12/13 years discus with a throw of 42.15metres. and in the sand, Sarah de Vries hopped, skipped and jumped her way to a new record in the senior womens triple jump with a jump of 9.40metres. Congratulations to both these athletes.
Last week in Round 6 another record was set, this time in the mens 30 – 39yrs. discus by Tim Musson with a throw of 32.20metres. Great throwing by Tim! Also doing well in the discus net last week were sisters Samantha and Annie Peace. Bronwyn Opferkuch was back having a throw and Tori Sayer showed off her refined throwing technique.
The young ones showed some shot putting action. Claire Musson, Cody Chater, Elke Keane, Laila Hartnett and Zoe Musson all trying hard to improve with each throw. On the track we welcomed Emma Brian for the first time who laced up her running shoes for the 50 and 150metres events.
Emma had a smile a mile wide as she sprinted to the finish line. Well done Emma! We also welcomed back Danny Brian after a long break from athletics. With his lilywhite legs it’s obvious Danny has not been seeing much of his running shorts recently but with no injuries in sight Danny exploded off the start and attempted to chase down his rivals. Back on the track after an equally long break was Paul Musgrove.
Paul also was out to see how much speed he had retained. However Andrew Rodda was just too fast for both Danny and Paul, and Andrew took the line honours in both the 50 and 150metres events. In the womens sprint events Zoe Chater won both the 50 and 150meteres followed by Sarah deVries. April Rodda took 3rd in the 50m while Darlene Musgrove finished 3rd in the 150m.

C & D Grade Girls sprints were dominated by the Moffat sister who are both showing great form as all rounders. Taylor in C Grade & Jessie in D Grade. Well done girls.
In the long distance event of the night the young ones ran hard for 1000m.Jake Babian and Joseph Piert battled it out for the entire distance with Jake eventually taking line honours, very closely followed by Joseph.
Great running from these young boys! A similar battle occurred in the mens 1000m. Harry McGill led for most of the race with Jake Myors running on his heels. As they neared the finish line Jake dug deep and passed Harry to take first place. Leith Babian finished third with Bradley Sawyer 4th. In the 400m it was Cameron Musgrove who sprinted his way across the line first, followed by Harry McGill and Emerson Brian.
In the second heat Paul Musgrove showed determination in his return and took first place followed by Cameron Bowers who sprinted from behind to beat Ethan Havadjia across the line. A reminder that the Annual 10km track Championship will be held as a feature event on Wednesday November 5th.
All interested runners are welcome to have a go, however athletes MUST be current registered members of Nowra Athletics Club. So if you want to run, but haven’t yet joined as a club member you will need to do so before the race which is planned to commence at 7.30pm.
In addition, interested runners are asked to please also advise secretary Jan Gibb of their intention to run the challenging 25 lap event so that lap scoring sheets can be organised. It is sure to be a challenging race to test you physically & mentally! Nowra Athletics competition starts at 6pm at Ron Brown Sporting Complex. All welcome.
