Last week at Nowra Athletics there was some good quality throwing from a variety of athletes, young and not-so-young. Alison Havadjia and Laura Babian put in some fine efforts in the shot put circle, as well as newcomer Bronwyn Opferkuch. Lacey Bruce returned this week for some more throwing action; and youngsters Camryn Anfruns and Meg Morris showed off their excellent shot put form.
At the discus net Anna Lilly, Callula Norwood and Claire Musson all displayed great throwing technique.
On the track there was some good sprinting from the boys Alistair Clark, Blake Hartnett and Keeghan Norwood. In the younger Grades Jessie Moffat,
Taylor Moffat, Eva Lilly and Ella Hartnett all featured in the top 3 placings of their races. Also starring in the podium finishes in their races were Joseph Piert, Lucas Johnson and Jake Babian.
In the women’s sprints Lacey Bruce took out the 80m, followed by Sarah deVries and Lynda Douglass. Zac Havadjia won the mens A grade 80m, with Emerson Brian a close second and Jordan deVries third.
In the men’s veteran 80m the two Andrew’s had the race all to themselves this week! Andrew Rodda sprinted across the line first and Andrew Havadjia had to settle for second.
In the longer distance, Cameron Musgrove once again won the 800m, followed by Jake Myors, Leith Babian and Bradley Sawyers. All four of these runners are in top form at the moment and the contest for placings is competitive. The women’s event was taken out by Crissy Suffolk with Laura Babian showing she been getting some running tips from Leith to take second and Bronwyn Opferkuch ran in third. In the younger 800m event,
Jake Babian took line honours, with Matthew Higham second, Joseph Piert third and Lucas Johnson fourth.
This Wednesday there will be the usual variety of track and field events, starting from 6pm at Ron Brown Sporting Oval. Then next week the once-a-year only 10km track event will be held as a feature event on the program. This will take place on November 5th. All interested runners are welcome to give it a crack however athletes MUST be current registered members of Nowra Athletics Club. So if you want to run, but haven’t yet registered as a club member you will need to do so asap.
In addition, interested runners MUST also advise secretary Jan Gibb of their intention to run the challenging 25 lap event BEFORE the 5th of November so that lap scoring sheets can be pre-organised. Up for grabs, along with the honours of winning the race, is a $200 voucher which will enable the winner to buy a new pair of running shoes – just what every good runner needs! It is sure to be a challenging race with a quality field so don’t miss your chance to test your stamina and speed.
