Track and Field on the 22nd January 2025 drew a small but enthusiastic crowd. After 2 rain-out nights to start the year, it was great to get back into athletic action.
It was fantastic to welcome Scott Armstrong back to the track and see him looking strong. Scott took out the 1500m in 5.51.41 and was 3rd in the 600m in 1.54.06.
Tom Smart was 2nd in the 1500m in 5.59.96 and 2nd in his heat of the 600m in 2.00.35. Kai Thirwall had a good run for 3rd place in the 1500m with 6.00.69 and sprinted through for 1st place in his 600m in 1.59.81.
Erin Smart won her heat of the 600m in 1.51.71, edging out Steve Schott in 1.52.61.
In the 60m sprint, Steve Schott clocked the quickest time of 8.49 followed closely by Erin Smart in 8.66. Sam Keogh clocked 9.61, Kate Wagner 9.84 and Kai Thirwall 9.89.
Erich and Eva Moeller-Duhme enjoyed the middle distance events, pushing hard as always.
The young Lee family participated with great sportsmanship as usual, and their exceptional manners certainly do not go unnoticed. 6-year-old Cobey Lee ran through for 3rd in his 60m heat with 12.26, then he was 8th in the 600m in 2:38.59 and 11th in 1500m in 7:56.03. 10-year-old Heath Lee, clocked 10.87 in the 60m, was 7th in 600m in 2:37.28 and was 12th in 1500m in 8:01.54. The eldest brother, 12-year-old Declan Lee sprinted the 60m in 10.79, was 5th in 600m in 2.15.72 and was 6th in 1500m in 6.31.78.
In the field, Hamish McLaren speared 44m in javelin whilst Steve Schott was just a smidgen behind with 39.94m. Scott McLaren had a good throw of 22.08m. Anne Boatswain also had a good throw with 20.49m as did Amy Wagner with 20.30m.
The youngest athletes enjoyed discus and shot put. Jameson Day had a great discus throw of 12.72m and in shot put, threw 5.04m. Isla Saviane threw 9.36m in discus and 4.79m in shot put whilst Cobey Lee threw 9.04m in discus and 4.31m in shot. Rosie Saviane, Kayleigh Kingdom, Coco Prayetno and Hazel Saviane all put in great efforts in the throwing circles.
