It was cool and blustery afternoon that greeted the runners who turned up for the Club meet at Timberhills last Saturday. Numbers were down but that didn’t affect the competitiveness that runs through our Club. Timberhills always presents a great challenge with lots of intense inclines and fast downhill’s.
The 1k was once again won by young Isaac Bacchus, Charlie Braddick made up 2nd spot, Aimee Coulson-Knight took out 3rd and Alexander Bacchus just missed out on a podium spot for 4th.
Tara Cornell, Liam Coulson-Knight, Ruby Davidson and Stirling Norwood were the first 4 place getters for Division 1 – 2k. Mums Kelly Norwood and Julie Harrison ran well to place 1st and 2nd respectively. Alastair Urquhart and Rachael Banwell weren’t too far behind in 3rd and 4th.
3k Division 1 saw Alex Cornell take out 1st place (as he did last week at Longreach). Eilish Norwood, Peter Dooley and Keeghan Norwood followed him across the line. For Division 2, 1st and 2nd was a reverse of last week’s order. Ella Davidson and Mikalya Check battled for their positions. Annabelle Dallas and Joshua Banwell made up the first 4 runners.
Medium Course has a few more hills added in but that didn’t slow down Paul Davidson, Zac Havadjia, Crissy Suffolk or Harry McGill. 13 yr old Clayton Gibb (visiting from Hong Kong) had his first introduction to Timberhills. He ran and placed well considering he started on a handicap of 3.20.
Division 2 and 3 has an equal mix of male and female over the line. It’s good to see the girls give the boys a run for their money. Rob Rose piped Angela Urquhart and Graham Smith didn’t cross too much before Zahra Wells. Clint Maynard just beat out Angela Edwards and Gavin Urquhart (making up 3 out of 4 placings for the family this week) ran well to take out 3rd in front of Darlene Musgrove.
In the grueling long course Jye Edwards (who started on a handicap of 8.30) was never off his stride. Brad Sawyer, Bill Broughton and Scott Johnson filled in the other placings. The girls were in the mix again for Division 2. Siobhan Clayton placed 1st, Glen Mustapic followed. Linda Weatherill was 3rd and Matt Florance was 4th. Alison Havadjia recharged her batteries throughout the week to place 1st for Division 3. Kyra Florance and Jack Robertson battled it out for 2nd and 3rd.
Next week out competition will return to Longreach. Also on the calendar is the State Road Relays. Good luck to our teams competing up there. You do our Club proud with your efforts.
“In running, it doesn’t matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, ‘I have finished.’ There is a lot of satisfaction in that.” -Fred Lebow, New York City Marathon co-founder
