The AMA Winter Throwing Championships were held over the long weekend at Kerryn McCann Athletics Centre in Wollongong. Nowra Athletics member Kerrie Jones competed with great success and came home with a collection of medals.
In the women’s 65 years Throws Pentathlon Kerrie came 2nd with 2393 points.
In the individual events on Sunday Kerrie added another 4 silver medals to her weekend haul.
Shot Put 6.43m 2nd Place
Discus 16.73m 2nd Place
Javelin 14.89m 2nd Place
Weight Throw 8.21m 2nd Place
In the Hammer Throw Kerrie threw 19.10m for 4th Place.
On the final day of competition Kerrie took home her first national title in the Heavy Weight Pentathlon. For those not familiar, the Heavy Weight Pentathlon gives throwers a chance to indulge their appetite for the Heavy Weight! Not only do they throw their normal size Weight but also the two Weights that are immediately lighter and heavier than their normal weight. Kerrie stepped up to the challenge and earned herself 2997 points for the National Gold Medal.
