Last Saturday afternoon was the first gathering for the summer road runners from Nowra Athletics. Twenty three enthusiastic athletes turned up to put their speed to the test.. Cambewarra is one of the toughest courses we have for this season. Even the fittest back markers find it tough, so for the rest of us, its brutal. Add in some heat and it can be unbearable.
It was good to see some new faces and catch up with the old faithful crew. Brielle Musgrove more than likely sealed her fate with the handicapper by crossing the line in first place. Brielle is new to the Road Running but she’s a fast learner. She was followed by Brad Sawyers (one of the back markers) and Ethan Havadjia (another new face to Road Running) also made it onto the podium on his first run by taking out third.
The rest of us crossed in bits and pieces, being cheered on by our faithful timekeepers and volunteers.. Other new runners on the day included Cameron Musgrove and Zac Havadjia with Doug Jeffrey having a run on his home course and Trish Bird starting back after her overseas jaunt. Next week we are at Vincentia (Plantation Point) where I’m sure the temperature will be in the low teens.
Please remember that Paul needs help each week to set the course.. I know its a social type run but it still takes organisation and it shouldn’t come down to the same people each week. We are all members of the Club and we all need to pitch in. Membership is due so be sure to get a form or go online and sign up.
Don’t forget to collect a corrected copy of the program next week or look on line at the website.
