For our first run in the Summer Road Run series over 30 of us attacked the hills at Cambewarra (or you could say that they stood their ground and threw their best at us). For many, it was a hard slog, and for most they were overtaken by a pram pushing Scott who went faster up the hill than the majority of could run down it. It is a humbling thing to see. As past experience can tell any who have run this course before, it is usually quite warm. Fay and Henry Suffolk are wonderful folk who offer any who want it a nice cool drink and then there’s the psycho Audi driver who decided to provide a tsunami type wave as he went through the causeway – unfortunately, Sharon was in the middle of it. She survived to drip her way home and luckily was unhurt. Obviously, this one bloke took exception to us being on the road and we have to remember that we must abide by road rules (for our safety) and not hinder any traffic (not that we did).
Next week will be the first handicap run out at Plantation Point Vincentia, so for all those who thought to bluff their way to a good start time, let me tell you a secret – the handicapper sees and knows all and won’t be fooled (although rumour has it he can be bribed with Cadbury Chocolate). See you there at 4.30pm
