As walkers and runners assembled on Friday December 6th to take on the Beach Road course dark, grumbling skies threatened. Keen walkers and runners crossed fingers and a few toes hoping they could complete the course before the impending downpour. The picturesque Beach Rd is one of the favourite courses and the general feeling was, it would be a shame to miss out. With the weather App predicting they had time, the Friday night walk/run event went ahead as planned.
2km:
The 2km course welcomed the Wright family from the Gold Coast; Simone (nee Moeller Duhme), Garfield and daughters, Jade and Jupiter. The family certainly showed their pedigree with the youngest competitor on the night, 12-year-old Jupiter, crossing the line first in 10.36, closely followed by Garfield in 10.40 with 14 year old Jade third in 12.09, just edging out Simone with 12.18.
5km:
Evergreen Eric Moeller-Duhme, perhaps inspired by his family visitors, took out the 5km course in 28.37. Darren Morris, who is thoroughly enjoying his return to running, took second in 27.35. Third and first female home was Rebecca Cooper in 26.04, two seconds in front of Peter Khourey. Jasper Arnold was the fastest runner on the night with a slick time of 20.22.
In almost perfect timing, the threatening storm arrived as contented walkers and runners left for home.
The Beach Rd Course is becoming very popular. So much so that a Sunday morning walk/run and coffee afterwards is being planned. Watch this space!
Next week starting at the Lady Denman, Huskisson is our lastwalk/ run for the year. Christmas drinks will follow at the Jervis Bay Brewery. See you there!
