169 teams & 766 athletes from across NSW merged on North Ryde Common on Saturday 5th June for XC Relays in beautiful conditions.
Nowra Athletics Club fielded just three of the 169 teams and whilst it was a much smaller contingency than previous years, Nowra’s twelve athletes did themselves and the Club proud.
The Under 14 girls’ team of Emily McLaren, Lana Crawford, Airlie Stevens and Rose Atkins ran in ninth in a combined time of 33:59. Emily McLaren ran the first 2km leg in a fast time of 7:50. Lana Crawford completed the second leg in 8:43 and then Airlie Stevens ran around in 8:22 before Rose Atkins completed the final leg of the relay in 9:04.
In the Under 16’s 4x3km event Nowra’s male team finished eighth in 46:30. Hamish McLaren led the team out in 11.15 followed by Darcy Davis who clocked 11:54. Third runner was Toby Dyball in 11:20 and the relay was finished off by Gaveen DeSilva in 12.01.
Nowra’s Under 18’s boys team managed fifth place in the 4x3km relay in 43:06. First runner Will Dyball set the pace for his team completing the first leg in 10:07. Nash Hay ran the second leg in 10.49 followed by Jasper Arnold in 10.55 and Jake Pepper brought the team home in 11.15.
