Round 8 of Cross Country was held at Longreach on Saturday 5th June. As some of our junior runners were away competing at State Cross Country Relays, numbers were a little lighter than usual.
The 1km had just one competitor; Archie Gallagher, who was pretty pleased with his win!
In the 2km event there was a great battle for the win with just centimetres separating the first two athletes across the line. Miller Bell was awarded the honour, just in front of Finn Goddard who flew around the two laps of the course to cross second from a 7 minute handicap. Third was Heidi McLaren followed by Isobella Mitchell, then Aidan McLaren, Winter Bell and Malachy Martin.
The 3km event had ten competitors and it was Katrina Davis who took the win in 14.25. Andrew Havadjia ran in second followed by Darren Morris however it was Erin Smart in sixth place, who clocked the fastest time with 13.41.
Medium course had the most participants with seventeen athletes completing the distance. Alison Havadjia worked hard for the win whilst Peter Dooley powered home for second place, working his way through the field from a 19.30 minute handicap. Darlene Musgrove was third but it was Bradley Sawyers who was the fastest clocking 22.18. Medium course also saw a number of returning athletes testing their cross country endurance including Kade Dhu, Zac Havadjia and Matthew Higham. We welcomed them back to Nowra Athletics.
Long course was taken out by Graham Anderson in 48.27 whilst Andrew Lawrence was second and Ming Leung third. Scott Martin was once again the fastest across this distance, running home in 38.30.
Next week we return to Worrigee course. If you missed out last time, come and test out our newest course. It is located on Worrigee Road. Entry is via the gravel driveway 200m, after the Crematorium entrance, on the left hand side. The Club banner will be at the gate.
