With school holidays and terrible windy weather the numbers were low at Nowra Athletics Track & Field last Wednesday.
However that didn’t deter the athletes in attendance from giving their all.
Noah Dyball, Evie Smart and Dean Osgood were the youngest competitors on the night sprinting with great enthusiasm.
Rommey Hazell, Emily Burinaga, Zarlie Dyball and Ella Dyball battled it out in C grade in both the 60m and 200m.
C grade boys had a good representation with Jai Holland, Jackson Musson, Matthew Higham, Scott Delo, Kobi Kennedy, Wil Osgood, Byron Osgood and William Dyball all running the sprint races, finishing in this same order in both the 60m and 200m.
Meanwhile Lachlan Woods and Toby Dyball competed well in D grade.
Zoe Chater, Erin Smart and Holly Spence were the female A grade sprinters with Zoe confidently taking out both the 60m and 200m.
Newcomers Baylee Holland and Erin Somerville ran well in B grade.
Darlene Musgrove and Deb Clark were the only female Vets representatives in the 60m. However the men’s Vets division had more numbers. In the 60m Steven Schott took first place in front of Paul Musgrove who finally made a return to Wednesday night competition after a notable absence. Scott Martin and Gavin Dyball ran in next followed by Robert Somerville and Tim Musson.
In the A grade men’s Zac Havadjia ran off some pre-HSC pressure claiming the win in the 60m. Liam Dooley was second and Ali Clark third. In the 200m training team mates Zac and Ali battled it out for the win with Zac crossing just in front of Ali. Zac might need to keep a better eye on his younger competitor who is noticeably gaining on him.
In the junior 800m Jai Holland was the clear winner in front of William Dyball and Byron Osgood.
In the combined women’s 800m Holly Spence was first home followed by Baylee Holland and Erin Smart. Further back In the field was Eva Moeller-Duhme who established a 60-69 years record with her run of 4.45.4 minutes and hubby Eric was there to capture the moment on camera!
Leith Babian was the winner of the men’s combined 800m with Liam Dooley second and Bradley Sawyers third.
In the final 2 km event Leith was once again the victor whilst Brad claimed second and Scott Martin was third. Eva Moeller-Duhme once again established a 60-69 years record in this event with a recorded time of 12.03 minutes. Eva is getting quite a collection of records now!
In the field Kerrie Jones proved she is also on a mission this year with yet another record established; this time in the 60-69 years discus with a throw of 14.75 metres. Kerrie now holds a record in all three throwing events; shot put, javelin and discus.
Brock Nichols recorded the biggest discus throw of the night with 31.54 metres followed closely by Tim Musson with a throw of 30.67 metres.
In the shot put circle Brock again recorded the biggest distance with a throw of 10.66 metres and Tim came in second with 9.93 metres whilst Zac Jones threw 9.48 metres.
Annie Peace was the best female shot putter on the night with a distance of 9.36 metres.
It was great to see Corey McConville back at Nowra Athletics and he featured well amongst the throwers in both the discus and shot as did new recruit Luke Somerville.
Round 3 of Track & Field will take place from 6pm on Wednesday 12th October at Shoalhaven High School. The Club desperately needs volunteers to help coordinate the events on the night so if you can lend a hand, please let a committee member know.
Thinking ahead, the NSW Relay Championships will be held on 26th and 27th November. The Relay Championships is the largest and most successful relay event in Australia. The competition is held over two days and hosts over 700 teams from NSW clubs. The Championships is conducted in the Under 14, Under 16, Under 18, Under 20, Open and Masters age categories across the following events:
4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m, 4x800m, 4x1500m, 4x1500m Walk, Medley Relay, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin (not all events are offered for every age group).
Last year Nowra Athletics entered a number of teams and enjoyed a great weekend of competition whilst also picking up a number of medals.
