Records tumbled on Wednesday 14th November at Nowra Athletics Track & Field!
Taj Barrett hurled the discus a massive 31.40 metres to set a new 9 years and under record. The previous record was 24 metres so he smashed it! Taj recently completed at the NSW PSSA Championships where he placed 9th with a throw of 30.90 metres so he is just going from strength to strength. Well done Taj!
Erin Smart is certainly a smart, and fast, cookie putting another two records under her belt on Wednesday. Erin ran 8.60 in the 60m and 13.65 in the 100m, bettering her own record of 14.0 which she only set two weeks ago! She was presented with Certificates for her previous record breaking efforts in the 100m and 400m so perhaps this was her incentive! Congratulations Erin!
The afternoon rain may have scared some people off but the clouds cleared for a steamy evening of athletics on a damp track. However the rain left the grounds too wet and slippery for high jump so there was plenty of action at the long jump pit instead.
Sarah DeVries usually gets the long jump run up to herself but on Wednesday there were some eager jumpers lining up behind her. Sarah jumped 4.46 metres in long jump and 9.45 metres in triple jump.
Jackson Jennings, in his debut at Nowra Athletics this season, jumped an impressive 4.58m in long jump and 9.52 in triple jump. Meanwhile Lucas Johnson jumped 4.29 in long jump.
Alexandra Smith jumped well recording 3.96 in long jump and 7.68 in triple. Ellla Dyball jumped 3.39 in long and 7.51 in triple; and Alexis Charalambous recorded a 3.20 metres long jump and 6.42 in triple jump.
It was great to see some new runners on the track this week with Mel Mustapic and Mel Jennings both giving the 600m a go and Leisa Dyball sprinting in the 100m. Well done ladies!
Robin Vonk flew around the track in the 1500m event winning in a time of 4.40.50. Scott Martin ran in second and Marcus Baxter took third.
Ethan Havadjia showed heart to take the 600m followed by Emerson Brian and Max Buckham. Whilst Matthew Higham was the victor in the junior 600m race with Toby Dyball second and Jake Griggs third.
We have entered over 20 teams for the upcoming relay championships and want to thank those competing athletes for supporting Nowra Athletics Club. This year we have combined some of the teams with members from Illawarra Blue Stars. These teams are called South Coast Teams. This is a great opportunity to share the spirit of athletics and comradery with like-minded athletes. We embrace the opportunity to make new friendships with our fellow competitors at Illawarra Blue Stars (IBS).
Please keep up to date with the Final Program in case there are any time schedule changes. We will endeavour to email a final program before the event.
Remember all athlete registrations must also be paid in full before the Relays.
We look forward to a great weekend of team racing, jumping and throwing!
