Nowra Athletics Club returned to track and field competition on Wednesday 13th January 2021. Numbers were down, but this is typical for this time of year when athletes and families take Summer holidays.
For those athletes in attendance, the Summer performances were hot! Geoff Crook speared 31.01 metres for a new record in the 60-69 years javelin event. Geoff recently celebrated his 60th birthday and so was keen to break the record in his new age group and was rewarded with success on his first night. Geoff broke his friend Doug McNally’s record of 29.71m, set in 2017-18.
Also, in the throwing arena, Tori Sayer threw 35.55 metres to set a new 30-39 years javelin record and Mel Jennings hurled the hammer 27.04m for a new Club record.
Then on the track Erin Smart ran her way to a new record in the 600m clocking 1.40.40. Will Dyball was actually 1st in the race crossing in 01:30.97 with Zac Havadjia 2nd in 01:36.31 and Erin 3rd. In the junior race Anna Duncan was 1st in 01:56.41, Emily McLaren was 2nd in 02:09.23 and Harry Thomson was 3rd in 02:14.21.
In the sprints, the fastest male athlete over 60m was Will Dyball in 8.22 followed closely in the men’s division by Dennis Smart and Tom Duncan who both clocked 8.58. However, Erin Smart was the fastest female over 60m and had the second fastest time overall of 8.37.
In the 100m Zachary Havadjia was the fastest with 12.73 whilst Will Dyball was second fastest with 13.07 and Erin Smart was third fastest in 13.25.
In the 1500m the race was taken out by Will Dyball who crossed the line in 4:49.88 followed by Tom Duncan in 5:28.12 then Dennis Smart in 5:34.06.
We look forward to seeing everyone back next Wednesday at Track and Field.
