It seems that every week our elite athletes just keep getting faster!
Last Wednesday 13th November yet again workhorse Peter Dooley broke a record on the track. This time it was in the 2km in a time of 7.29.00. In the same race Emily McLaren ran across the line in fourth place in a record time of 7.53.00 for the 11 years category. Emily bettered her time of 7.55.03 which she achieved a few weeks ago on 23rd October. Congratulations to our record-breakers!
Of course, competing isn’t all about records and its fantastic to see athletes having fun and improving their times each week in the process. Persistence and consistent effort are demonstrated by many of our athletes of all ages. Well done to Alison Havadjia who is continually improving her times on the track and also to Oliver Baxter who is demonstrating determination to chase down his brothers, and in turn, shave down his times. Last week, Oliver finished third in the 2km event in 7:50.00 hot on the heels of his brother Cameron who crossed in 7:49.00.
Ethan Havadjia and Jackson Jennings continue to shine in the sprints. Another sprinter demonstrating impressive form this season is Ruby Marshall. Ruby has captured the attention of running veteran and expert Bernie Condon with her refined running style. Bernie has been raining compliments for Ruby’s great technique and speed. Ruby is competitive against the boys, clocking 8.72 last week over 60 metres not far behind Jackson Jennings who crossed in 8.54.
This season it has been great to see an increase in veteran women competing. Among these are Karly Goddard, Tracey Barrett and Tiffany Atkins who all have children competing and are joining in the athletic fun with great success. Newcomer Loretta Norris is also achieving great results both in track and field events.
Last week saw some big throws from the discus circle with Jackson Musson beating his dad Tim, with an impressive throw of 38.65m whilst Tim achieved 34.57m. Kane Barrett displayed good form to measure 29.73 whilst Talea Miller threw a very inspiring 26.85m. Talea will be sure to prove a force to reckon with in the upcoming Under 14’s discus relay. Hamish McLaren will also be joining this relay team and achieved a great throw of 25.80m last week.
In high jump there were just three competitors; with Paul Musgrove clearing the bar at 1.40m, Tom Brookes achieving 1.15m and Nicholas Ferreira jumping 1.10m.
