The 2015 NSW Short Course Cross Country Championships were held on Saturday 1st August at Upjohn Park in Rydalmere.
Nowra had 8 athletes representing the Athletics Club at these Championships.
Our best performer on the day was Jye Edwards who placed 3rd from an extremely competitive field in the Mixed 5km U18 and U20 event in a time of 16.10 minutes.
Jye has been outstanding throughout the season and is well deserving of this podium finish; made even more amazing considering he competed at Regional Athletics in Canberra the day before.
Next to cross for Nowra was Harry McGill in 15th place in 17.10 minutes; another athlete who backed up after Regionals.
Jesse Buckham and Cooper Thomson were two junior athletes who both backed up from a run in the 2.5km event and placed 43rd and 45th respectively in the Mixed 5km event.
In the Mixed 5km 55+ event Milton Cox was our sole representative and he ran strongly to finish 75th in a time of 25.14minutes.
Meanwhile Glen Mustapic ran in the 7.5km event, finishing 71st in 35minutes.
In the Mixed 2.5km U16 and U18 event Jesse Buckham ran in 25th in 9.11 minutes and Cooper Thomson placed 29th in 9.17 minutes.
Jade Mustapic finished 50th overall and Kieran Harisson was 53rd.
Well done to all the Nowra athletes for competing with strength and determination.
Back at home, the last pointscore round of Cross country took place at Huskisson.
It was an unusually warm afternoon for a winter run at 22degrees. However numbers were well down with just a handful of dedicated runners chasing the final points.
The final pointscore totals will be released next week at the Final Cross country meeting of the Winter season. This will be held at Willandra with some fun novelty events and an afternoon tea, There will be a sausage sizzle after the fun so athletes and families are asked to bring along a picnic blanket and something sweet to share for an afternoon of eating and socializing.
We look forward to seeing everyone there.
We also hope to see Nowra athletes competing in the Capital to Coast event on the August weekend 14-16th. The Capital to Coast is a multi stage running event from ACT to the NSW Coast. Find details for entry on the Capital to Coast website. This is a great event for middle to long distance runners through picturesque scenery from Australia’s capital to the beautiful Jervis Bay. Challenge yourself in a unique running event!
