NSW Milers Meet was held at The Crest Athletics Track on Saturday December 23rd. The middle-distance runners had a huge night with Personal Best’s galore!
In the Opens men’s 2000m steeplechase, 16-year-old Hamish McLaren contested the 84cm steeple height and had a great run with 6.53.55 for 2nd place. Meanwhile 14-year-old Cameron Baxter competed in the 76cm height of the steeplechase and had a strong win in 6.59.97. Pocket rocket Evie Binney had a great win in the women’s steeplechase race over 76cm clocking a National Qualifying time of 7.56.88 and taking an impressive 32 seconds off her time this season. What a great, and well-deserved Christmas present!
In the Open 5000m Harrison Baxter managed a massive 40 second PB, finishing in 15.47.18 in 16th place.
In the 1500m, Mark Thirwall was 2nd in his heat with a PB of 4.37.52 and 10-year-old Kai Thirwall was 10th with a huge PB of 5.21.86, dropping his time from 5.34.61. In the A race, former member Cam Musgrove had a great run amongst a top-quality field where the first 11 athletes ran in under 4 minutes. Cam was 4th with a PB of 3.48.66.
Nowra had 7 athletes in the 800m. In Heat 1 Hugh Thirwall had a strong run to cross in 2nd place with a PB of 2.16.37 whilst Mark Thirwall was hot on his heels with another PB of 2.17.42. Gavin Dyball was 7th in the same heat with a PB of 2.25.71. In heat 3 Darcy Davis had a blistering run, finally breaking his 2.07 time barrier with a time of 2.04.59. In heat 4 Toby Dyball was 7th with a solid run of 2.05.24 and in heat 6 Will Dyball had a fantastic run in a super quick A race, shaving his PB down to 1.54.62. In the women’s events, Amelia May had her first hit out of the season after returning from injury and had a strong run to finish 6th in 2.14.57.
Earlier in the day, 3 of Nowra’s sprinters competed at the Campbelltown High Velocity Meet. Alisha Mustapic had a solid run over the 400m hurdles and clocked 1.10.41. Tom Brooks also had a great run to clock 1.01.96 in the Under 18’s 400m hurdles whilst Jonah Watson finished in 1.02.08.
It was a great way to end the 2023 athletics season.
