2025 NSW Masters Championships took place at SOPAC over 3 days, 21st–23rd February where Nowra Athletics Club was represented by 8 athletes.
Kerrie Jones started off Nowra’s successful campaign on Friday night with a silver medal in the women’s 70-74 years weight throw, throwing 7.75m. In the hammer throw Kerrie also took silver with a throw of 19.24m. Kerrie then added 3 bronze medals to her growing collection of medals with 3rd place in discus with 14.86m, 3rd in javelin with 12.78m and 3rd in shot with 6.22m.
Erin Smart took home 4 gold medals from 4 events! In the 40-44 years 100m Erin sprinted across the finishing line in 12.77 taking 1st place ahead of fellow Club athlete Sam Keogh. In the 60m, Erin clocked 8.09, with 2nd place getter Liz Lobb, (Athletics Wollongong) finishing in 8.30 and 3rd place going to Sam Keogh. Erin clocked 26.00 over 200m well ahead of 2nd place getter Joanna Lodge, from Manly Waringah who crossed in 28.00 whilst in the 400m, Erin again beat home Joanna Lodge with her time of 58.27 which was an equal fastest 400m across all the ages.Sam Keogh contested a huge competition program of 13 individual events. On Friday night Sam kicked off with 5th place in the 40-44 years weight throw with 7.14m. More competition in the throwing arena saw her place 4th in discus with 27.49m, 5th in hammer with 16.18m, 5th in javelin with 21.35m and 10th in shot put with 7.13m. In high jump Sam cleared the bar at 1.30m for 4th place and leapt 4.46m in long jump for another 4th place whereas in triple jump, Sam collected the bronze medal for her jump of 8.90m. Out on the track, Sam took 2 hurdles gold medals with a run of 13.55 over 80m and clocking 1.12.93 over the 400m hurdles. In the 100m, Sam took silver behind Erin Smart in a lifetime best time of 13.29 and took bronze in the 60m with 8.40 and in the 400m Sam was 4th in 1.08.24.
Gavin Dyball took the bronze medal in the men’s 50-54 years 1500m race in a time of 5.15.61 and was 4th in the 800m in 2.31.41
Steve Schott speared the gold medal in the men’s 45-49 years javelin with a throw of 34.86m. Over 400m, Steve was 3rd fastest in the 45-49 years race to take the bronze medal in 59.09 and was 4th in the 100m with 12.42m.
Loretta Norris took bronze in each of her 3 events she contested. Loretta was 3rd in the 35-39 years 400m with her run of 1.06.62 and 3rd in the 800m with 2.39.94. Loretta was also awarded a bronze medal for her efforts in long jump, leaping 3.91m.
Anne Boatswain went home with a bronze medal after her throw of 8.83m in the women’s 45-49 years shot put, and was 5th in the discus with 25.04m.
Matt Watson was 6th in the 50-54 years 400m in 1.22.97 and 7th in the 800m with 3.24.21.
