NSW 5k Champs were held on 6th February at SOPAC Warm Up Track. It was a highly competitive race with a number of well credentialled athletes competing for the title.
The front runners set a solid pace, with the winner Kieren Tall clocking 13:59.23 and second place Matt Hudson 13:59.92. With the first two runners achieving a sub-14 minute run the next sixteen runners all achieved sub-15.
Nowra’s Harry McGill clocked a PB of 14.34.17 placing 9th overall, which was fantastic for his first race back on the track in 4 years!
Whilst former Nowra member Arron Speissberger-Parker, who is now with Bankstown Sports Athletics Club, ran a great race to place 5th in a PB of 14.11.50.
Congratulations to both these athletes.
At the same meet, in the women’s 800 Metre Open event Emily McLaren finished 7th in her heat in a time of 2.42.54. Emily also ran in the 1500m event where she placed 12th in heat 2 in 5:31.45
Meanwhile brother Hamish McLaren contested the men’s 800m and placed 5th in his heat, clocking 2.30.32.
