Athletics ACT held their Summer Series No 8 & Bill Jacobs Shield at Woden Park on Sunday and a number of Nowra athletes competed with outstanding results.
First up in the 800m, Cooper Barrett ran a 4 second PB, coming in 5th in 2.05.63.
Heat 2 of the 800m was dominated by Nowra athletes. Darcy Davis took line honours in 2.15.66 followed by Denzel Atkinson in 3rd with a PB of 2.16.41. Nicholas McGill was 6th in 2.26.12 and Masters athlete Glen Mustapic ran in 7th in 2.56.43.
In the sprints Nowra again featured in many races. Max Marshall was 6th in heat of the 60m in 7.46 whilst Charlie Heidke was 8th in 7.58. In heat 2 Matt Reid was 2nd in 7.79. Heat 5 saw a Nowra trifecta with Ruby Marshall taking the win in 8.73, followed by Alisha Mustapic in 2nd in 8.86 and Mark O’Leary 3rd in 9.10.
In the 100m, Max Marshall sprinted to 2nd place in heat 2 in 11.66. Heat 3 was taken out by Charlie Heidke in 11.83 and Matt Redi was 4th in a PB of 12.32. In Heat 4 Ruby Marshall was 7th in 14.18 and in heat 6 Alisha Mustapic was 6th in 14.05. Heat 7 was contested by masters athletes Paul Musgrove, who, although nursing a leg injury, still managed 3rd place in 13.96, and Mark O’Leary who was 7th in 14.53.
There were just four competitors in the 3000m, and three of them were from Nowra. Denzel Atkinson dug deep to take the win in very hot conditions, clocking a PB of 10.36.27 whilst Nicholas McGill also fought hard to take 2nd in 10.39.27, which was a huge 9 second PB. Masters athlete Glen Mustapic crossed the line in 4th place, but took the win in the opens category, clocking 13.31.83..
In the 400m, there were some last minute entries from Nowra as part of a challenge to test speed and endurance over a lap. In heat 3 thirteen year old Max Marshall looked like he was jogging and still managed to clock a National Qualifying time of 54.97. Max ran in 3rd followed by middle distance runner Cooper Barrett and sprinter Charlie Heidke who crossed in a dead heat of 55.69 for equal 4th.
Heat 4 victory went to Darcy Davis in 1.00.90 whilst Denzel Atkinson backed up after the 3000m to place 3rd in 1.02.61.
In heat 5 Ruby Marshall was 3rd in 1.10.28 and Alisha Mustapic was 5th in 1.11.76.
Representing Little Athletics, Shoalhaven Club was Elizabeth and Macarthur Davis. Elizabeth was 1st in her heat of the 100m in 16.44, 2nd in 400m in 1.20.68 and 8th in 800m in 3.10.30. Macathur blitzed the field in the 800m streaking away for 1st place in 2.48.22 and was 3rd in 400m in 1.17.77.
