Nowra Athletics Club had seven athletes compete at the All Comers Illawong meet on Saturday 15th February, which was held at The Ridge Athletics Track.
Maintaining the 800m reputation of the Club, Nowra had five athletes contesting this distance.
Erin Smart kicked off the 800m events in great style, achieving a PB of 2.19.31 finishing in 5th place in her heat against much younger competitors. Next up was Cam Musgrove who ran home in 1.55.37 in Heat 1 of the men’s races, earning himself another PB reflecting his consistent improvement this season.
Reilly Caswell then ran just outside his PB, finishing in 4th place in Heat 8 in 2:21.59. Cooper Barrett clocked a PB of 2:28.30 as he crossed in 4th place in Heat 9 whilst Peter Dooley who was seeded in the same race as Cooper looked strong the whole race and powered home in 2:26.69, just getting pipped on the line and relegated to 2nd place by 12-year-old Corey Everett from Newcastle Runners.
In the sprints Lachlan Kaszonyi ran a PB in the 100m, clocking 11.37, to take 5th place in heat 5, although it was declared wind assisted with a wind reading of 4.4. Erin Smart backed up after her 800m to run 13.21 and easily win Heat 6 of the 100m.
In the field, Charlie Heidke competed at his first Allcomers meet in the high jump clearing 1.50m, to finish in 6th place.
Ron Cox, clearly getting used to the competition side of athletics now, competed in the discus event recording a top throw of 32.98m.
Unfortunately, the meet was called off before the completion of all events, due to lightning.
Well done to all our competitors!
