Nowra certainly made an impression at the AACT Summer Series No 3 event on Saturday 20th November. The event was held in Woden and there was such a large representation from Nowra Athletics Club that Athletics ACT wrote a Thank You to Nowra in the sand of the long jump pit.
In the 800m Reilly Caswell got the season off to a flying start with a national qualifier! Reilly clocked 2.03.71 in heat 2 for 1st place whilst Darcy Davis ran in 5th in 2.11.76 and Nicholas McGill finished 7th in 2.24.46.
In heat 4 Nowra dominated the field. Denzel Atkinson was 2nd with 2.27.08, Cameron Baxter was 5th in 2.32.56, Peter Dooley was 6th in 2.33.49, Darren Atkinson was 7th in 3.01.28 and Matthew Watson was 8th in 3.14.14.
In the 3000m, it was a similar story of black and gold majority. Nicholas McGill was 3rd in the11-13 years category with a time of 10.49.68 and Cameron Baxter was not far behind in 4th place in 11.01.96. Harrison Baxter took out the 14-15 years event in 10.24.06 in front of brother Oliver Baxter who finished in 11.07.73. In the Open event Marcus Baxter ran in 2nd in 11.12.22 and Darren Atkinson was 3rd in 13.47.00. Representing the women’s 14-15 years was Amelia May who took out her event in 10.52.51.
The 400m was contested by seven Nowra athletes. Reilly Caswell was 4th in heat 1 in 54.77. Heat 2 saw Darcy Davis take 4th in 59.36 and Jonah Watson take 6th in 1.03.62. Denzel Atkinson won heat 3 in 1.03.27 whilst Asher Chapman was 4th in 1.16.61, and in Heat 4 Cameron Baxter was 4th in 1.13.61 and Matthew Watson was 5th in 1.24.39.
In the 200m, Nowra had three 3rd places. Reilly Caswell was 3rd in heat 1 in 24.62, Jonah Watson was 3rd in heat 2 in 27.13 and Asher Chapman was 3rd in heat 3 in 28.95 whilst Mark O’Leary was 4th in heat 3 in 30.00.
All-rounder Reilly Caswell lined up for the 100m too and took 4th place in heat 1 in 11.94. Jonah Watson took the win in heat 5 in 13.14 whilst in the same race, Asher Chapman was 3rd in 13.78 and Mark O’Leary was 6th in 14.46.
Asher Chapman sprinted to 2nd place in heat 2 of the 60m, crossing the line in 8.46 and Mark O’Leary was 7th in 9.09.
It was a successful meet to kick start the Track and Field season. Well done to everyone who competed.
