Nowra Athletics held Round 7 of the Winter cross country program on Saturday 14th May at Willandra.
It was another sunny afternoon with conditions obviously perfect for fast running with two new records set on the day!
In the 1 kilometre event it was Callula Norwood yet again crossing the line in first place. Tynan Caswell was second and Charlie Braddick was third.
In the 2 kilometre Division 1 event crossing first was Riley Caswell. Cameron Harrison was second and Stirling Norwood was third with the fastest time of 8.36 minutes. Crossing 4th was the first female Roxi Florance in 10.29 minutes followed by Eilish Norwood who recorded the fastest female time of 9.04 minutes.
Division 2 was won by Harriet Urquhart. Levi Wallis was second and Katie Martin was third.
In Division 1 of the 3 kilometre event Oscar Goley was the triumphant winner. Jasper Arnold was second with the fastest time of 12.51 minutes and Willliam Pratt was third.
Division 2 was taken out by Thomas Pratt followed by Emily Burinaga and third was Ella Dyball.
In the Medium course Division 1 there were 15 competitors this week. Cooper Thomson took the line honours with Darcy Hopkins running in second.
Teresha Moxham was third and Rumer Williams set a new medium course record as she crossed in 16.01 minutes in 4th place. Congratulations Rumer!
Harry McGill recorded the fastest male time on the day clocking 14.54 minutes as he crossed the line in 10th place, followed hot on his heels by Arron Spiessberger-Parker and Stephen Grant, both recording 14.55 minutes.
Division 2 of Medium course was won by Jackson Cleary. Second place was taken by Kathy Hopkins and third place was claimed by Ian Robinson.
In Division 3 there were 7 contenders. Alison Havadjia was the victor this week, followed by Steve Thomson and third was Donna Johnson.
Long course was won convincingly by Jye Edwards in his return run at Nowra Cross country after competing in Hungary in the World School Cross Country Championships.
Jye recorded a new record of 26.53 minutes, demonstrating his continual strength and speed in cross country running. Well done Jye!
Michael Duncan was second and Leith Babian ran in third whilst Annette Sampson was the fastest female this week in 38.54 minutes, crossing in 6th place.
In Division 2 Laura Prince was the winner. Gary Bowen was second and Laura Babian was third.
There will be no cross country competition next weekend as the King of the Mountain Running Festival will be held on Sunday 22nd May ay Kangaroo Valley.
The Shoalhaven King of the Mountain is a 25km mountain classic held on mixed terrain starting and finishing at the Kangaroo Valley Country Club.
In addition to this classic 25km endurance event there will also be a 10km, 5km and 2km event for all to enter.
Check-in opens from 7am at Kangaroo Valley Country Club. The King of the Mountain will start at 8.30am with the 5km and 10km kicking off at 9.00am, followed by the 2km at 10.30am
There will be an event for everyone at this truly unique festival of running. Please come along and support this event.
Finally don’t forget that State Cross Country Relays will be held the following weekend on Saturday 28th May at Miranda Park.
