Two new hammer records were set on Wednesday 21st February in the final points round of our season.
Anne Boatswain set a new record in the 40-49 years event with a throw of 21.43m whilst Melinda Jennings threw 27.66m for a new 50-59 years record. Congratulations to both these athletes who are continually demonstrating developing speed, strength, and co-ordination in the throwing arena. Also throwing well in hammer were Sam Keogh with 20.34m, Kerrie Jones with 20.35m, Steve Schott with 19.89m and Tori Sayer with 14.82m.
Hamish McLaren continues to throw well in javelin on the back of his recent record-breaking throw of 47m at Shoalhaven Little Athletics Club competition. This week he speared 40.08m and I’m sure he has the Nowra Club record of 51.44m in his sights. The next biggest throw came from Timothy Musson with 34.84m followed by Steve Schott with 27.06m. Also throwing well was Nakita Boatswain with 24.63m, Harry Thomson with 22.36m, Tori Sayer with 21.22m, and Anne Boatswain with 20.89m.
In the junior discus, Riley Sandstrom continues to achieve great distances with a top throw of 35.42m, not far off his own record of 36.62m. Emerson Boatswain had a good throw of 19.15m whilst Heidi Saviane threw 13.94m. Also competing well in the discus circle was Jack Saviane with 10.55m, Emily Love with 9.75m, Lucy Barker with 9.58m, Isla Saviane with 9.56m, Charli Keogh with 9.05m, and Isabella Ansah with 8.50m.
On the track, the junior 600m was taken out by Tom Smart in 2:10.68 followed by Benjamin Sproule in 2:34.52 and then Jack Saviane with 2:39.85. The senior race was won by Dennis Smart in 2:01.43 with Emily McLaren running in 2nd in 2:03.42 and Emerson Boatswain taking 3rd in 2:06.59.
In the 1500m, Hamish McLaren took the win in 5:03.24 whilst Dennis Smart was 2nd in 5:49.97 and Emerson Boatswain was 3rd in 6:06.60.
Over 60m, Steve Schott was the fastest clocking 8.44. Not far behind was Erin Smart with 8.53 followed by Harry Thomson in 8.87. The 100m played out in the same order with Steve Schott crossing in 12.99 followed by Erin Smart in 13.54 and Harry Thomson in 14.27. Also running under 15 seconds was Dennis Smart with 14.46, Phillip Ansah with 14.74 and Sam Keogh with 14.88.
Next week will be the final night for track and field with fun events to cap off the season.
