Week 3 of track and field competition saw more records set on Wednesday October 2nd.
In the 3000m there were 18 competitors and 2 new records. Madeline Oke clocked 11.57.70 for a new record in the 12-13 years group and Rod Rose set a new 70+ record with a time of 14.33.42.
Rod Rose also set a new record in the 400m, putting in a mammoth sprint finish, to cross the line in 1.24.84.
Eva Moeller-Duhme continued her record-breaking streak in the 70+ group, this time setting a new record in the 400m, with a time of 2.25.88.
Whilst in the field, Lauren Naylor speared 27m for a new record in the 40-49 years javelin.
Athletes are on fire this season!
There were more great personal performances from athletes of all ages across both track and field.
Taking out the 3000m was Denzel Atkinson in 10.40.05, who has been in fine form so far this year. The next 4 runners all finished in under 12 minutes. Macca Davis was 2nd in 11.34.38, Tom Smart was 3rd in 11.40.01, William Heffil was 4th in 11.55.26 then Madeline Oke was 5th with her record time of 11.57.70.
The 400m event was popular with 5 heats. Jonah Watson, fresh from competing at All Schools Championships, set the fastest time of the night with 57.51. Steve Scott had a great run with 1.01.95. Denzel Atkinson had another strong run with 1.03.08 as did Erin Smart with 1.03.59 and Harry Thomson with 1.04.20. Evie Smart demonstrated great style to take the win in her heat with 1.08.52, reaping the rewards of her hard training.
The Saviane trio of Isla, Hazel and Rosie all started in the same lane for the 400m but the sibling support was left at the start line. Isla quickly took off and finished 2nd in 1.42.88. Hazel was 5th in 2.13.47 whilst 4 year old Rosie was cheered all the way to the finish line to take 7th in 2.51.00.
The fastest sprinter of the night over 100m was Jonah Watson with a time of 12.35. Toby Dyball, in 12.53 just edged out Tom Brookes in 12.55 and Steve Schott clocked 12.99.
In the discus circle Tim Musson recorded the biggest throw of 34.15m. Steve Schott threw 28.43m whilst Zoe Musson achieved 27.08m. It was great to see Geoff Crook back at track and field and he had a good throw of 25.74m whilst Kadance Naylor also had great success with a big throw of 25.06m.
In the long jump pit our youngest athletes put some bounce in their steps. Jameson Day leapt to 2.84m whilst Braxton Naylor jumped 2.75m. Jaxon Keogh recorded 2.31m and Isla Saviane jumped 2.29m. It was great to see Kayleigh Kingdom jump 0.76m and Coco Prayetno 0.50m.
A big shout out to our volunteers on the BBQ – the dinner options have been very welcomed by the athletes and their families.
