Nowra athletics conducted Round 4 of the Track & Field Competition last Wednesday October 19th and more records were broken!
Hollie Spence broke a 23 year old long jump record in the 20-29 years age group when she jumped 4.64 metres. Hollie was last a member of the club as a young teenager and has just returned to Nowra Athletics after many years absence. Hollie was just two years old when the previous record was set and it is great to see her now jumping into the record books herself.
Kerrie Jones improved her previous best in the 60-69 years javelin spearing another record with a throw of 13.66 metres.
Eva Moeller-Duhme continues to add to her record tally setting a record in the 60-69 years 600m with a time of 3.10.4 minutes and another record in the 1500m with 8.44.6 minutes.
Husband Eric also claimed a new record in the over 70 years 1500m with a time of 7.10.9 minutes.
Congratulations record breakers!
Nowra welcomed back Jake Myors to Wednesday night competition. Jake ran a strong 1500m race finishing well ahead of the field in a time of 4.24.7 minutes with Pete Dooley calling the race with much excitement! Jai Holland ran in next in 5.38.0 minutes followed closely by Ethan Havadjia in 5.39.6 minutes.
Once again the youngest athletes, who seem to be growing in numbers each week, ran with great enthusiasm. Perhaps the lolly rewards at the end of each race are a motivating factor!
Brothers Liam and Dylan Johnstone had a good tussle in the 60 metres race, running in lanes next to each other. Younger brother Liam crossed in 10.5 seconds just in front of Dylan who clocked 10.7 seconds. However the tables were turned in the 100m with Dylan beating out Liam in the longer sprint.
The A grade boys also demonstrated strong form with a close competition across the entire field. Emerson Brian was the eventual winner in both the 60m and 100m but the other boys were close on his heels. Zac Havadjia ran in second in both events, followed by Brady Blacker and Hayden Strand.
The men’s Vets group had a good showing of competitors in the sprints with Jordan Godley crossing first in the 60m followed by Paul Musgrove, Rod Rose, Martin Stiles, Gavin Dyball and Robert Somerville.
Zac Havadjia took out the 600m in 1.39.4 minutes whilst brother Ethan made a surge on the finishing straight to push through to second place in 1.48.1 minutes squeezing just in front of Jordan Godley who clocked 1.48.9 minutes. Ethan has his eye clearly on big brother Zac and is beginning to narrow that gap!
Jai Holland was the fastest junior across the 600m finishing in 1.50.4 minutes.
In the field Jackson Musson had a good throw in the shot put with 10.19 metres throwing further than Dad Tim Musson who measured 9.34 metres. Brock Nichols showed a strong throwing arm with 10.47 metres in A grade and Ebony Johnson was welcomed back to Nowra Athletics this season with a throw of 9 metres. Meanwhile Emily Burinaga recorded the longest throw in the junior females with a distance of 6.30 metres followed by Taylor Moffat with 6.13 metres.
In the javelin Tim Musson speared the greatest distance with 45.22 metres. Hayden Strand was next best with 39.18 metres and Brock Nichols was strong again with 38.98 metres. Corey McConville threw well with 27.51metres and Deb Clark tested her throwing arm with a distance of 15.52 in the Vets grade.
The junior athletes jumped for joy in high jump with Jett Anderson clearing 1.36 metres and Jai Holland, Byron Osgood, Wil Osgood and Lachlan Woods all jumping 1.10 metres.
Jordan Godley was the only Vet athlete game enough for triple jump, recording 10.71 metres. Experienced triple jumpers Brock Nichols (11.56m)and Jordan deVries (9.78m) enjoyed the friendly competition as usual with Corey McConville (9.48m), Sarah deVries (8.98m), Hollie Spence (8.70m) and Baylee Holland (6.62m).
Nowra Athletics Club would also like to congratulate all the athletes who recently competed at the 2016 2XU NSW All Schools Championships. There were some fantastic results and the Club is proud of your results.
