More records continue to fall early in the Nowra Athletics track and field season.
Emily McLaren took three seconds off the 11years 2000m record on Wednesday 23rd October. Her time was 7:55.03, smashing the old record from 1992 which was 7:58.50.
In the throwing circle Mel Jennings broke two records! She bettered her shot-put throw from last week of 8.23m, achieving a new record of 8.35m. Then, in the discus Mel sent the discus soaring to 22.48m for a new record in the 50-59 years group.
Still in the discus circle Taj Barrett set a new record in his age group throwing the 750g discus a huge 31.72m.
Congratulations to our record breakers; Emily, Mel and Taj.
In the sprints our fastest seniors included Lachlan Kaszonyi with 7.67 over 60m; Ethan Havadjia in 7.95 and Jackson Jennings 8.25. In the Masters division Paul Musgrove was the quickest with 8.66 followed by newcomer Andrew Crawford in 8.93 and then Mark O’Leary in 9.04.
In the master’s women, Karly Goddard was the fastest over 60m racing across the line in 9.64. Another newcomer, Lynne Vaughan ran well clocking 10.08 and Janelle Stiles finished with her trademark smile in 13.13.
Ethan Havadjia led the main event of the 800m crossing first in 02:19.62 whilst Lachlan Kaszonyi was second in 02:26.70. Ruby Marshall won her heat of the 800m in 02:48.63; Emily McLaren was victor of her heat clocking 02:55.16 and Toby Dyball took out his heat in 02:44.10. It’s fantastic to have so many athletes competing, needing multiple heats of our middle-distance events.
In the long-distance event, Harrison Baxter had a great win in the 3000m crossing the line in 07:03.35. Dennis Smart was second in 07:31.12 and Pete Dooley was third in 07:39.03.
In the field there were just three keen high jumpers; masters athlete Paul Musgrove cleared 1.35m as did young Alexandria Smith and Tom Brookes jumped 1.10m.
Kane Barrett recorded the biggest throw from the discus circle with 33.94m ( not much more than young son Taj Barrett threw to break his age record – 31.72m), and Mark O’Leary also threw well with 27.44m. Proving throwing strength must run in the family; Cooper Barrett recorded one of the biggest throws in the boys group with 23.78m and Flynn O’Leary threw 20.22m.
In the shot-put Kane Barrett was once again the biggest thrower with a distance of 11.16m followed by Ethan Havadjia with 10.58m. Tori Sayer had a good throw of 9.23m as did Cooper Barrett with 8.43m.
