NSW Masters Championships were held at Blacktown International Sports Centre on the 3rd and 4th March 2018.
Athletes from Nowra Athletics Club did themselves and their Club proud at these Championships.
Alissa Beresford was forced to give up running when she broke her foot so has since turned her hand to the throwing arena. Alissa has been rewarded for her hard work and determination with five medals at the Masters Championships. Alissa won gold in the 40-44 years discus, hammer throw and weight throw; silver in the javelin and bronze in shot put. In the process, Alissa also achieved four new personal bests!
Paul Beresford kept himself busy at the Championships with entries in eight events across both track and field. In the throwing domain, Paul achieved 4th in weight throw and discus, 5th in the hammer throw, 6th in javelin and 7th in shot put for the 40-44 years. In long jump Paul jumped to 5th place and in the triple jump, he landed 4th. Meanwhile, on the track Paul sprinted to 6th place in the 60m.
Erin Smart won 2 silver medals in her first ever State Masters. In the 35-39 years, 800m Erin ran a 13 second PB to take the silver in 2.26.58 minutes then backed it up with a 5 second PB in the 400m for another silver.
Seasoned athlete Deb Clark speared a bronze medal in the 55-59 years javelin with a throw of 22.21 metres.
Cristine Suffolk added another gold to her medal collection with a win in the 45-49 years steeplechase in a time of 10.41.78 minutes. Cristine also bagged a silver in the 5000m.
Meanwhile, Bill Pomplun also came away with a silver medal for his run in the 55-59 years steeplechase.
