Another cold and blustery afternoon greeted the brave runners who turned up for the Saturday afternoon competition. The officials (who we would be lost without) had nowhere to hide and faced an onslaught of dust throughout the afternoon.
On the bright side though, Tobi Hudson made a welcome return to win the Special A’s 1k event. Isaac Bacchus has made it three in a row by again taking out first place in the 1k. He was closely followed by Annie Seccombe, James Babian and Charlie Braddick.
Division 1 2k had Jake Babian, Stirling Norwood, Scott Delo and Liam Coulson-Knight doing battle for the first 4 places. Jasper Leung and Rachael Bamwell were able to hold off Kelly Norwood and Deb Clark to secure 1st and 2nd for Division 2.
Division 3 had Kieren Harrison holding first position over Peter Dooley. Hunter Lynch and Keeghan Norwood pursued them closely for third and fourth. In Division 2, 3k Finton Murphy, Kyla Davidson (who put down the camera for a quick run) held on for 1st and 2nd. Richard Murphy and Megan Coulson-Knight followed across the line for 3rd and 4th. Good times were also posted for Tara McInally, Ella McInally and Thomas Gibb.
Consistent running each week has placed Paul Davidson and Matt Brennan in the winner’s circle for Division 1. This week Shenay Edwards was able to beat out Paul Duncan for third. The women in Division 2 scooped 3 out of 4 positions. Ros Phillips in 1st, Suzanne Coulson-Knight in 2nd, John Keenan (upset the order by coming 3rd) and Zahra Wells placed 4th. A mixed barrel for Division 3 with Donna Johnson having a good run to beat John Price for the first 2 placings. Darlene Musgrove also managed to hold Gavin Urquhart off the podium by taking 3rd.
The challenging long course had Rob Pickard, Dave Tuckerman, Mitchell Hudson and Brad Sawyer (who consistently places in the top 4) securing line honours. Close on their heels was Milton Cox, Siobhan Clayton, Charlie Coulson-Knight and Kendall McMaster for Division 2. In Division 3, Ally Strand beat her last time on this course by over 3 minutes. Jack Robertson couldn’t catch her but Allison Havadjia ran well as did Laura Babian.
For all the times, check out the Nowra Athletics Website and we will see you next week at Timberhills, Tomerong and the following week we have the return run of the McCaffrey Challenge at Dapto. We need club members to run if we are to have any hope of getting it back and it’s a great afternoon of running on a flat surface (that’s right, their hills are not worth the mention).
