There was a large contingency of keen athletes at Nowra Athletics Track and Field competition last Wednesday night on 8th November.
In the high jump Lara Check jumped a record breaking 1.54 metres in the 14/15 years group; jumping higher than her older competitors of Liam Dooley (1.52m) and Jordan deVries (1.45m). Congratulations Lara on setting a new record!
There was a large field of junior male athletes having a turn in the discus net with Reilly Caswell throwing an impressive 24.99m. Will Dyball also threw long with 17.31m and Dylan Johnstone performed well with 14.34m on his return to Nowra Athletics this season.
In the girls’ junior discus once again Talea Miller had the biggest throw with a distance of 19.21m. Jayla Beresford was not far behind with 18.08m and Jessie Moffat threw 15.62m.
In the seniors discus throwing Tim Musson again shone with a throw of 38.54m. Cooper Thomson threw 33.96m and Sam Taylor threw 28.32m whilst Ben Johnson threw 28.07m just in front of sister Ebony Johnson on 26m.
The seniors enjoyed shot put with Cooper Thomson demonstrating his throwing arm with a throw of 11.29m. Callum Johnson also demonstrated his strength with a throw of 10.17m just behind Tim Musson who threw 10.36m. Chris Johnson out performed son Ben recording a best throw of 8.32m in front of Ben on 7.92m but Ebony Johnson went even better throwing 8.92m. It was great to see the Beresford family all having a turn in the shot put circle with Paul throwing 6.95m, Alissa recording 6.01m and Jayla 5.54m.
The long jump pit was busy with Reilly Caswell recording the longest jump for the junior boys with 3.93m and Liam Johnstone jumping 3.18m on his 2017 debut. In the girls event it was Jessie Moffat who jumped the longest with 3.50m and Olivia Davis was just a smidgen behind on 3.48m.
In the triple jump Sam Taylor was inspiring with a jump of 13.14m whilst Jordan deVries jumped 9.75m and Sarah deVries jumped 9.31m.
On the track it was Reilly Caswell who stormed ahead in the 800m to take the win in front of Will Dyball and Toby Dyball. In the senior teenager race Cam Musgrove claimed victory in his first track event of the season with Jesse Buckham second and Liam Dooley third. Whilst in the senior race Brad Sawyers stole the win in front of Scott Martin and Peter Dooley.
In the sprint events the junior males made it a family affair with siblings running well including Cameron, Harrison and Oliver Baxter, Tynan and Reilly Caswell, Noah and Toby Dyball, and Ben and Zac Maher. In the junior women Akala and Talea Miller ran well along with Allie and Jessie Moffatt.
Miller and Winter Bell ran with their characteristic smiles sporting their Nowra club colours in stripes! We love their enthusiasm!
In the senior sprint races it was great to see our master competitors putting it all out there including Gavin Dyball, Paul Musgrove, Martin Bell, and Chris Johnson.
In the final event of the night Scott Martin took out the 2000m with Brad Sawyers running in second and Dennis Smart taking third.
Track and Field will continue again next Wednesday night at 6pm at Shoalhaven High School.
