Kerrie Jones recently travelled to the Hunter Valley to compete at the National and State Indoor Heavy Weight Pentathlon which was held at the Argentille Equestrian Centre in Lovedale.
Despite freezing temperatures on the day of competition on Saturday 21st July, Kerrie had a great weekend and enjoyed the different experience of competing indoors.
In the heavy weight pentathlon, athletes throw weights of increasing mass. In the 3kg weight throw, Kerrie launched the implement 9.72m. In the 4kg Kerrie achieved 8.94m, then in the 5.45kg Kerrie recorded 7.76m. As the weights got heavier, Kerrie pulled ahead of her competition. In the 7.26kg weight throw, Kerrie threw 6.26m, and in the final 9.08kg Kerrie hurled 5.10m for a total of 2332 points. This was enough for Kerrie to take the gold medal in front of Adriana Van Bockel who tallied 2246 points.
The icing on the cake for Kerrie was learning that her point accumulation in the heavy weight pentathlon was a new Australian record. What a fantastic achievement!
Congratulations Kerrie. We are so proud of you!
