Some of our Nowra members participated in the Australia Day Bush ‘N Beach Fun Run & Walk hosted by Victory Runners at Seven Mile Beach in Gerroa on January 26th.
For the second year running, Bradley Sawyers took out line honours in the 5k event, clocking 19 minutes which bettered his 2020 record time by over 1 minute. Brad just returned from a holiday in Queensland where he also won the North Lakes Parkrun in a new parkrun PB of 16.30. Congratulations Brad on your wonderful achievements.
Dean and Sharon Bryce also contested the Australia Day run with Dean finishing 7th in 27.06 and Sharon 15th in 40.21. Robert Pickard ran well for 8th, finishing hot on Dean’s heels in 27.51 whilst Eva Moeller-Duhme was 17th in 42.17.
Track and Field numbers on the 20th January were still strongly impacted by the Summer holidays, however there was still some fine performances on show. The senior 800m was won convincingly by Ethan Havadjia in 2.27.57 with newcomer Denzel Atkinson 2nd in 2.29.32. Zac Havadjia was 3rd in 2.42.95 whilst dad Andrew Havadjia was 8th and the only female entrant Darlene Musgrove was 7th.
In the 2km event 1st and 2nd place getters were duplicated whilst Dennis Smart took 3rd and Erin Smart was 4th.
The junior 800m race was taken out by Emily Mclaren in 2.48.11 with Airlie Stevens in 2nd and Evie Smart in 3rd.
Paul Musgrove capitalised on the smaller fields taking the win in his heats in both the 60m and 200m pipping Mark O’Leary in both races. In the senior sprints Lachlan Kaszonyi, took the wins with Ethan and Zac Havadjia and Matt Reid vying for the next top 3 podium places. Zac won the battle in the 60m clocking 7.84 in front of Ethan in 8.19, with Matt 4th in 8.34 whilst in the 200m Ethan took 2nd , Matt 3rd and Zac 4th.
Elsie Proctor won her 60m heat which was great to see for someone who usually prefers the longer distances. Enjoying the Summer atmosphere, Alisha Mustapic and Mia Stevens ran all events together and did as much chatting as running!
In the field there was a total of just 18 athletes having a throw. Samantha Peace impressed with her throw of 46.27 in the discus. Tori Sayer threw 28.31 whilst Hamish McLaren threw 28.24.
In the shot circle Ethan Havadjia achieved the greatest distance with an effort of 10.52m just in front of Samantha Peace who threw 10.45m. In hammer Mel Jennings throw measured 24.27, Kerrie Jones reached 22.06, Tori Sayer 19.78 and Katrina Harris 17.87. These senior women also enjoyed weight throw; another new addition to Nowra Athletics program. The competition was close with just 1.06m separating the four best throws. Tori Sayer was out in front with 9.29m, then Mel Jennings threw 9.09m, Katrina Harris 9.01m and Kerrie Jones 8.23m.
