Illawarra Blue Stars Interclub competition was held on Sunday 15th November.
The sprinters performed well in strong tail winds with both 100m and 200m events on the program.
Ruby Marshall showed good form to finish 5th in heat 6, clocking 13.43. In the boys events eleven year old Max Marshall looked strong to finish 3rd in heat 8 in 12.58, which is an Under 14 National qualifier. Heat 9 had three Nowra representatives with Jonah Watson taking 2nd in 13.55, Asher Chapman taking 3rd in 13.61 and Mark O’Leary placing 7th in a PB of 14.21.
In the 200m Lachlan Kaszonyi raced well to finish 8th in heat 8 clocking 22.85. Max Marshall backed up to better his placing from the 100m and claimed 2nd in heat 8 in 25.57; another National qualifier. Heat 9 had four athletes from Nowra with Jonah Watson taking line honours in 28.21. Asher Chapman took 3rd in 28.43, Mark O’Leary chalked up another PB in 29.69 for 6th place and Jett Goddard was 7th in 31.96.
In the 400m, sometimes referred to as a ‘prolonged sprint’ and sometimes dubbed ‘a killer event’, seven brave Nowra athletes tested their sprinting prowess. Ella Dyball ran in 5th in heat 4 in 1.09.22 whilst Ruby Marshall was 3rd in heat 5 in 1.09.00. In the male events Lachlan Kaszonyi was 5th in heat 2 in 54.90 and Will Dyball was just behind him in 6th in 55.31. Heat 4 saw Nash Hay place 3rd in 56.65 and Reilly Caswell was 5th in 59.87. Tom Duncan ran well to place 3rd in heat 5 in 58.88.
The 800m event was well represented by Nowra with Will Dyball leading off with 5th place in heat 1 in 2.02.75. Heat 2 was won by Nash Hay in 2.09.92 followed by Tom Duncan 2nd in 2.16.09 and Cooper Barrett 5th in 2.20.12. In heat 3 Peter Dooley was 2nd in 2.29.93 whilst Jett Goddard was 4th in 2.34.95 and Matthew Watson was 10th in 3.09.59.
In the field, Jett Goddard speared 25.09m in javelin.
Well done to all the Nowra athletes, who sizzled in Wollongong in very warm conditions.
