There were 4 records set at Track and Field on 22nd February.
Brad Sawyers set a new 5km record, not an easy feat when he basically ran a solo race. He had a small but passionate cheer club who urged him on the whole way and he finished in 16.00.86, breaking Rick Bromley’s record of 16.14.00 which was set in 1993-94 season. It was a great run, demonstrating excellent focus and determination. Hamish McLaren also ran the 5km and finished in 18:49.30.
Archie Higgins jumped into the record books when he jumped 4.61m in long jump.
Timothy Musson threw the hammer 20.51m for a new record in the 40-49 years and Riley Sandstrom achieved 8.21m in shot put for an U9 record.
On the track, Byron Osgood won the 1000m with Dennis Smart running in 2nd and Archie Higgins 3rd.
In the 3km there were just 3 ‘smart competitors’ with Evie Smart taking the win in front of Dennis Smart followed by Tom Smart.
There were 2 heats of the 400m. Riley Sandstrom took out one of the heats, followed by Jack Savianne and then Heidi Savianne. The other heat was won by Archie Higgins with Loretta Norris 2nd and Evie Smart 3rd.
Athletes also enjoyed sprint distances of 100m and 150m.
